8.4 Upgrade vrs Aftermarket

Apparently OnX works with Android Auto now, but I havent tried it yet.

I installed the Insane Audio JL3001 a while back for this exact reason - I wanted OnX access, plus full android capability. Ive been pretty happy with it. I went from the 7" OEM unit to the JL3001 and its been great.

The JL3001 has a 9" screen, and its a big upgrade over the OEM unit - The Stinger Heigh10 was attractive with its screen size, but I wasnt a fan of the bezel style / button layout. The big deciding factor for me came down to two things - and anyone here who has the stinger, please correct me if I am wrong here -

1) Stinger unit runs an older version of Android than the JL3001, and at this point Stinger is not offering the option to update it.
2) Stinger reportedly has a long boot time - 20 seconds or so every time you start the truck, as the unit fully shuts down / the JL3001 goes to sleep mode so it wakes back up quicker.

I have remote start, rear camera. Do these work w the Insane? When in reverse the camera comes on? All the climate controls, steering controls, etc all work like from the factory?

Also have remote start and backup cam - I havent experienced any loss of factory function since installing the JL3001. All the OEM settings are available in the units settings or apps, as far as I have found.

You can also change the settings for how the unit will behave when the vehicle shuts off - stay on, turn off, turn off after x amount of time, etc - if you try doors off and the head unit is staying on, you can change those settings to fix it.

Didnt have to modify any of the factory harnesses to work with it, and the Alpine PSS-23WRA system integrates with it without issue.

Replaced my 7" with a Stinger over a year ago. Pretty happy with it. Added a $11 AliExpress front camera no problem, and it's speed/turn programmable. Display is not weatherproof, so that may be an issue for some. Can confirm 20s start up time - however, when starting up and immediately backing up the rear cam comes up in a couple seconds. IMHO Stinger is pretty conservative with updates (stability).
If I had to do it over again I would have just gotten the 8.4 when I bought the rig, but I thought the 7" would be sufficient.
