What's in a Name?
Well, my wife is a firm believer that only basic white girls drive white Jeeps. So here I am, enjoying my PSL. I honestly don't name my cars so this is new territory for me, lol. Pretty sure we're just gonna call her the Jeep.
Why a Jeep?
We started renting Jeeps a few years ago just for fun on vacations. I think what pushed me over the edge was a 2013 Dune JKUR we rented from Sixt in Vegas and then wailed on for a few thousand miles all over the southwest. I had caught the fever then for sure! I still really loved my full-size truck though, and either way I knew that I couldn't afford a JKUR or a Brute Doublecab at that time. So I made do for several years while finishing up grad school and moving to IL for work. When the JT launched I about lost my mind - I still wanted a Jeep and the Dodge was only getting older and less fun to navigate through Chicago. We started saving a little each month for a payment while I waited for Dune to show up. Spoiler Alert - it did/has not. In mid-2021 I realized I was just punishing myself and using Dune as an excuse to not get one. But hey - I've had the same truck for 17 years at this point and it felt a little wild to spend this kind of money on something. I also realized that one of the reasons I love my Dodge in white is that it's been beaten on pretty good but still looks great. This is exactly what I want out of this Jeep. So, here we go.
Holy Grail of Options?
I have buried the Dodge in some nasty stuff and knew I wanted a new pickup that was both lighter and had full lockers. I got into a pinch or two in the rented Jeeps that lockers saved me from, so it was a no brainer to get the JTR. I wanted the ecodiesel bad, mostly because I always felt like I missed out on having a Cummins in my generation of Dodge Ram. I had to finally realize that it was a bad idea for me. I want to keep this truck for a while and the headaches of a modern diesel did not seem worth it to me. I still have to get the Dodge smogged which is enough of a PITA, so I can't imagine trying to do that with this truck in 20 years. The final nail in the diesel was that I really wanted the 4auto transfer case, which is only available with the pentastar. So, my holy grail wound up being a 3.6 JTR with 4auto. I threw in the saddle leather to get me some of that sweet sweet brown I love too. A Jeep like that is somewhat impossible to find pre-built or used, so away to Gupton I went.
I got some other options too, like aux switches, cold weather, bedliner, steel bumpers and upgraded wheels. I'm an OEM kinda person so I know I'll keep the bumpers and wheels. Also, IMO blind-spot monitoring and auto cruise control are incredible options. The ACC in traffic has been like magic. Sure you can slow down without realizing it, but then again shouldn't I be paying attention anyways? I love it, and it makes me even more of a defensive driver than I already was.
Gupton
Finally picked up my Gupton Baby last Friday, February 4! The Gupton experience was amazing - the price was exactly as we agreed and I was in and out pretty quickly. I got a full tank of gas in the process, which was an unexpected bonus. I could tell they actually took PDI seriously too, as a few miles (5) were added after delivery and all of my fuses were properly seated.
Gupton also apparently did the paperwork correctly - my window sticker had my name on it!
All in, I saved about 10K off of MSRP. Big win in today's market.
Road Trip
We drove to GA and back up to IL over last weekend, about 1,500 miles on the clock. All of it was incredible. I think a lot of complaints about the 3.6 are coming from people with higher expectations than me. Understandable both ways, but being a little unspoiled by the old Dodge is fine by me.
Once we got home I really started to appreciate just how much smaller this truck is. It's the perfect size. I've never been able to park in our garage and have access to both sides of both cars.
What's Next?
I've already ordered an ARE CX Classic for dog haulin' and camping purposes. I am also considering the AEV Dualsport RT lift, but honestly the ride height and Rubicon suspension stock is surprising me, so we'll see. I may just end up leveling out the front end after I get the ARE and see how the rear looks. Other things will likely just be cosmetic doodads for a while. Tazer will go in this weekend, and next will be some way to use that to set up an AppleTV or similar for the uConnect.
Thanks to everyone on the forum for all of the help and laughs so far! Really excited to see where all this JTR takes us. - 869 KPH.

| There she is! The blue 4xE went to a guy that sat next to us on the flight from Chicago, lol. |
