Adaptive cruise control pinging

I was driving on the interstate while using my adaptive cruise control. As advertise, the truck came to a stop when I rolled up into heavy traffic. For a few minutes while traffic inched forward I heard a loud pinging sound from the sensor at the top of the windshield. the pinging sound went away once traffic cleared and the truck picked up speed.

Is this normal? Anyone else with the adaptive cruise control notice this pinging sound?

Over two years and 26k miles, with lots of use, mine has never made any noise that I noticed.

Never heard mine make any sound like that either.
