Total novice here with my first Jeep (Mojave with 35 Toyo ATs)

Plan to change the wheels when tires are first rotated.

Based on what I've read here I'm plan on 17" wheels.

Question: I keep reading about offsets which I assume effect how far out the tire sticks.

Can anyone explain the basics here?

I don't want to risk rubbing, quite like the idea of the tire slightly protruding for wider stance.

Any help appreciated

Your stock wheels Most likely are +44 offset. Hereā€™s a resource:

Thereā€™s another thread on Mojave wheel offsets... if memory serves, I think our stock Mojave wheels are +37, due to the need to push the wheels out a bit for the stability factor and the Fox hardware. Iā€™ve been shopping wheels also, and like just a touch of tire showing outside the fender flare line. As near as I can tell, a 5.00 backspace..which is a +1 gets that look. I like the Black Rhino Overland, but the -18 offset is too much tire outside the fender for me. I donā€™t plan on lifting this one, so want to keep it a little tighter.

Oh, thatā€™s correct about Mojave wheel offset. I missed that it was a Mojave. Be aware though that backspacing and offset are not always directly proportional. A 5ā€ backspacing wheelā€™s offset will vary based on the wheelā€˜s width.

Once you have an idea whatā€™s what, plug in your stock wheels here and any other wheel you are looking at and it will tell you how it changes height, how far your wheels stick out, etc.:

Here is a rough translation of backspace to offset in different width rims. This has been the most helpful tool Iā€™ve found, too bad I found it after I bought my wheels.

The 8.0ā€ wide Overland is a +30 offset and the 9.5ā€ wide is the -18 offset. Not sure what tires youā€™re looking at, but the Overland has an offset option that might work for you.

Thanks for that info! That is my quandary with the Overland wheel... the +30 offset would work, but the 8ā€ wide concerns me with crowning the tire.. as Iā€™ll be mounting 35/12.50/17 Ridge Grapplers. I like the 9.5ā€ width better, but I donā€™t want that much tire sticking out with the -18s. My second choice is the Fuel Kicker - good width with a +1 offset. Probably the way Iā€™ll go.. unless I keep looking

Let us know if we can help with your wheel selection when you are ready. We can special order many wheels we don't show on the web site as well.
