Oo I'm curious what they say about the mounting and exhaust pipes.
Man I am glad there is at least one other person here who understands what the propex offers. Its crazy everyone assumes it throws combustion gasses into the tent.

I'm so excited for it. Pretty much nerding out. Controlled, dry heat that's reliable. Everyone wants this, NOBODY wants to pay what this thing costs ?

Here are some pics from tonight.

New driver side setup:

Jeep Gladiator Alaska Daily Drivers: Hydro Blue 80A and Bright White JTR PXL_20240111_043255256

This allowed space to be created to vent the exhaust, bring in fresh air, and make room to send the tubes up to the tent. In this pic below, the yellow arrow shows where the combustion pipes will mount and be secured. The blue lines show roughly how the hot air and cold return tubes will run up to the tent window on the side.

I removed the gear that was on the inside driver side of the rack to make room for the heater. The traction boards will help protect the heater while driving:

This is what the heater itself looks like ?

I think more people would be willing to pay if they took the time to understand it more. I mean theres plenty of folks with the true diesel heaters. If they paid attention that this puts out the same dry heat then it probably would be used more.

how much does that heater weigh and what are the dimensions? And do you think it can be flip flopped in that aluminum box so the vents are pointing out the left side instead?

PROPEX HS2211 FURNACE TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
HEIGHT 9.06″ (230mm)
WIDTH 6.18″ (157mm)
LENGTH 16.93″ (430mm)
WEIGHT 16.98 lbs (7.7kg)
HEAT INPUT 6824 BTU (2.0 kW)
VOLTAGE 12V DC
CURRENT CONSUMPTION 1.7 A

I do not believe you could swap it within the box, but I believe you could just change the mounting brackets to mount it mirror image to get the same result.

I got to Lowes today to pick up what I needed to proceed. I've already made the bracket after getting home, which isn't too exciting to see. I made it out of black coated aluminum diamond plate.

Come to think of it, I need to test the fittings I got for the propane feed line. Hmm ? Back to the garage! ?

The Propex install continues! But not before getting the OVS 270 awning in place first to make sure everything will work together.

..and it does! We still need to open the awning and align everything, but we feel it's pretty close. The rear awning may or may not stay. They obviously won't work together but having both gives us flexibility based on space.

Got the brackets in place, had to move the scene lighting as well.

Using this piece of aluminum:

Which gets completely concealed and protected by the traction boards:

Test fit of one of the ducts that will run up to the tent:

It fits with the awning with no issues:

Test fit the combustion pipes:

Not sure what to do with the exhaust just yet, thinking it thru:

The thing to keep in mind are all of the rules they document for the pipes, one of which is this:

Plumbed in the propane. Tmrw I'll cobble the wiring together for a test after soaping the propane connections for leaks. I put in a nice large loop to allow great flexibility, serviceability, and ability to remove the propane tank easily.

Do you think a second propane tank is needed, looks like you have the room. Could you have used a stainless hose connection for propane? I looked at heat options in my RSI cap and loved the Dickinson fireplace, and propex seem to be the options I would go with , following the instructions on each, I don’t see how the fireplace can mount where people put it with the 28” above clearance, the requirement with Propex with not shortening or making many bends in pipes, or running the exhaust downhill much, makes it a bit of a challenge , which just makes it more fun.
I enjoy your posts…..Jack

Looking awesome so far. As it is -25 out this morning I am super jealous of your shop!

For the exhaust, what about routing it toward the rear of the gladiator. I see you have a fuel rotopax but if you angle it toward the front all the road spray and water will just shoot right inside that thing and probably cause some issues. Or an Idea I have been thinking of is get a stainless plate or see if there is a RV style plate that it can connect to and use that as a mount to the side of your cage there.

Curious what the spec requirement is for the 2 stage regulator. Can you run your stove off that same regulator as well and reduce the need for an additional piece?

EDIT: I just saw you already ran the exhaust out the back so it looks.. For the inlet I bet that pipe is long enough maybe to reach the passenger side of your bed rack and secure it to that?

I did the math on the propane consumption with help from the community here, somewhere there is a thread. I think he can get by for a night on the 5 lb tank, and for maybe 2 on a 10 lb tank. But I second the opinion of getting 2 10 lb tanks for a nice long 5 day or so trip.

You're sleeping in the canopy right? If you can find out how to make the Dickinson work. Do it! I had one in my travel trailer and it was amazing. Best part about it is it is super quiet, so in a confined space you wouldnt' have the fan noise of the propex.

Looking at the Aluma Cab option they have, they really don't meet some requirements but perhaps the steel construction of my cap would not be an issue with the clearance. Still a dream and far away, and insulating the ceiling is the first priority anyway.....Jack

For the dickenson I would not worry about having a short exhaust. I think it would work fine with as low as 12”

I also carry a 20lb tank in the bed just in case. I definitely want a stainless hose. I'll have to special order the fittings since the Propex is BPT threads. I'll test it all first and then place orders. You're exactly right on the requirements. I assume most ppl ignore them.

Thanks for your wisdom and for following along ?
