Thanks for checking out the thread. This weekend we made it to McCarthy, Alaska and the Kennecott Mine. If you know about this area, then you likely know about the road conditions. The Jeep crushed the roads and handled the stones, the potholes, and the washboard nicely.

Just a word of caution for those with pitman arm steering box braces... We were loaded up and heading out and boom, the steering got so loose. I could turn the wheel almost a full rotation with no actual turning. The pitman arm nut came loose. Check yours! Luckily we were still by our house so I could get us home to sort it out.

Have a heavy rig? I highly recommend the Hellwig rear anti-sway bar. I can't believe what we were missing. Such an improvement.

What a fantastic trip! I love this photo. It reminds me of the deep dark forest of the Olympics and west coast that I miss so darn much. All the ferns, salad, abundant mosses. Especially when it's just getting light (or dark) and the sun shines through the trees at an angle rather than straight down.

This is definitely off topic, but do you know how necessary having Selec-Trac is in Alaska? I’m considering a job offer up in AK, but I don’t have the full time 4WD option in my JT. Would winter tires be enough?

Where are you thinking in Alaska? Ultimately I think you'll be fine. With a good set of winter tires or studs and wise choices with the Jeep in the snow and ice, you'll be fine. We do roll around in 4Auto but I don't think it's ever saved us. When it's bad, we just pull it into 4wd anyway.

Likely in or near Anchorage, as the job would be in Anchorage, but if I end up staying longer term I'll likely move out of the city. Thanks, I didn't think Selec-Trac was a total necessity as long as I have sense and winter tires.

There's just something about being on the couch and getting to experience the aurora borealis that makes the cold worth it.

I fly helicopters for a living and was flying north from Fargo or somewhere like that 3 years ago. It was night and had a 40kt headwind back to base. For the whole 2 hour flight, my crew and I were dazzled by the dancing northern lights. Truly spectacular. I just started reading your thread and am enjoying it very much, thank you for sharing. It's dudes like you that make forums awesome.

I'm just reading this thread, Beautiful build in a beautiful state.

Did some time up there at JBER. At that time, I had a 16'JKUR and did a lot of exploring..... until I got a little wild and laid her over. one of my favorite runs was up through hatchers pass. the small "mirror" lake and views from the higher elevations are mesmerizing.

I'm here, I'm here! Summer is rolling around and hopefully we'll be back to adventuring! The wife and I did start the plans on a greenhouse this year. Once the ground thaws, we'll be tackling that project too. Can't wait to share some new journeys with you all
