The stock intake box gets its supply from a tube that pulls air from the behind the lower left-most grill slot area that is actually lower than the intake box itself. So there is a definite (I'd guess 8"-12") height gain over stock even with the low profile head.

Plus this snorkel relocates the intake further back where it is both well known and visible to the driver, as well as moving away from that initial dam of water that pushes up against the grill as the Jeep is fording.
The stock setup isn't actually connected so it's not like drawing water through the front will force it into the airbox. It's more a ram air type situation to get cool air up into the general area where the airbox does draw in but since there's a pretty large gap between where that tube ends and the airbox, there's no vacuum as you get with a sealed system and not nearly enough pressure to force water up into the airbox.

From where the stock airbox is taking in air, you're really only gaining a few inches.

No the mopar you cut the hood this you don't have to at all. But does use the factory airbox.
can you replace the factory airbox/filter for a better one and be compatible with the Amfib ?

I tried the very similar RR hi/lo snorkel on my supercharged 2014 JKURX and found it actually restricted airflow and so I uninstalled it.

While it DOES have a decent level of functionality and cool factor, I could not live with the performance drop.

I suspect this version would have similar effects, and since I will be installing the Magnusson SC once I receive my JTR in the next couple of weeks... I'm shying away from this.

I do wish the tubes supported more airflow, as I do like the functionality.

Open comment to RR: Let me know if you want me to try this on my SC'd 3.6 Pentastar.

Looks great! Now if Rugged Ridge would make a mirror image for the driver side that would hinge open so you could add exterior controls for a winch or air compressor.

Came across this post while searching for the effectiveness of the RR Snorkel... This is a great idea!

Mopar sells a repladement cowl mount for the drivers side. Grab dimensions of the RR product or 3d scan, and have someone 3d print in ABS. Voila!

I've been browsing the RHD Australia websites for the same thing, but not seeing it yet.

I got my snorkel back from paint, finally getting around to installing it now!

I also painted the cowl like Daniel, but then kind of went with the opposite idea and left the inlet grille and surrounds black, and painted the body of the high mount snorkel and ram.

What paint are you using to paint them?

Has anyone else taken apart their snorkel after installation to find all the connecting pieces warped? I called rugged ridge about this but they said that right now there is nothing they can do about it due to Covid and people working from home (understandable.)
Hoping they come up with a fix as I miss my snorkel.

Here is a picture of the center piece.

That distortion is likely a combination of the shape of the clamp, flexibility of the clamp, the ability of the clamp to slide on the tubing, and maybe a little over tightening with a technical assist by too soft a material used in construction of the duct.

I don't have this set up because i didn't like the outward appearance of it, and this issue doesn't make me want it any more.

I guarantee that distorted flange was sucking air, which is not an issue pre-filter, but if that was submerged it would be a plenty issue.

It wasn't over tightened. I barely snugged them down with a small flat blade. Rugged Ridge seems aware of the issue. They asked if I was running bigger tires and where I was located making it seem like the extra load combined with the TX heat caused the plastic to deform.

I was able to reshape the material with a heat gun and some manipulation but after a few days installed(this time with just enough force on the clamp for it to take the oval shape) it was deformed again.

On a side note, I noticed a fairly dramatic improvement in performance when going back to an S&B intake with the Magnuson.

We'll have a full review video coming soon! I'm very impressed with the install. The parts all seem to be very high quality and the under hood components match the look of the factory plastic intake pieces well. Once installed, the switch from low intake to the full height intake is only a matter of 4 screws.

Painting any portion or all of the snorkel pieces shouldn't be a problem at all, in fact I will be painting some of the components in the next few weeks.

hi rob, can you fit this system with a CAI filter box? or is just compatible with JT stock box?

The AmFib Snorkel connects to the lower portion of the stock air box. To my knowledge, there are no aftermarket CAI's that use the stock lower air box, so the only way to make it work would be with some customization of whatever CAI you're using.

There is a Cold Air Intake from Mopar which includes a new upper air box lid and intake tube along with a high flow filter that would work without any modification! The inside of the air box lid is smooth without any internal ribs or bracing like the stock air box lid. The opening to the intake tube and the tube itself is also larger in diameter and it eliminates all of the sound baffling present on the stock tube for a smoother air flow.

Check it out here - Mopar Cold Air Intake
