How dusty is your filter getting? I change mine every oil change and it still looks pretty new, and I live and wheel in an extremely dusty area. My cabin filter gets filthy though.

Snorkel for long term and change the filter fairly often if you run low grades. Some like to keep a handful of filters on hand for wheeling then a higher quality one for when they’re daily driving. I get STPs for wheeling and have a K&N for normal driving. I’ll judge the filter after wheeling as to if I throw it away or not.

went through palo duro and had dust everywhere after. changed the air filter (engine) and noticed a big diff. would like to not have to do that every time.. but $30 isnt a bad trade off.

Yeah. Snorkels are known for finding clean air and often used more for that than deep water crossings.
wondering about the rugged ridge low mount snorkle.. if its worth the money

K&Ns are not good for dusty conditions. Track car, sure.

If you want to run a snorkel run one with a centrifugal dust separator like a Sy-Klone. Otherwise theoretically snorkels can pull cleaner air further up but I kind of doubt it's very measurable when the alternative is under the hood.

I like paper filters. Washable ones are good. I've run AEM Dryflow filters on my Jeeps for well over a decade now. But I don't think anything beats a good paper filter if you're worried about maximum filtration, regardless of where you're drawing the air.

I've got 45k miles on my Gladiator with a snorkel and Sy-Klone prefilter utilizing an AEM dry cone filter in the airbox and it's still clean.
