Jeep Gladiator Annoying nannies! Ugh 1656287172719

But seriously, blaming any perceived inconvenience or a lack of understanding on the "nanny-state" right out of the gate really nukes any credibility you might have had going in. I'm sure everyone here would be more than happy to talk through things like this, but as soon as you invoke the "nanny-state" argument you're going to have a bad time.

Remember that people have died in situations like this before you complain of safety overreach.

This got me thinking and after a quick google search, starter interrupter devices have been around a long time, an article had GM putting a device in cars in 2014 to allow police to turn them off. So as dale gribble as it sounds they probably could turn your JT off if they wanted to. I mean i am almost sure they could if i can use a website to unlock my doors. Also wondering if those weird GPS units people found from the dealers had the ability to shut the JT off if customers were delinquent? Maybe there would be laws against leaving someone without a running vehicle who knows.
I could be wrong but I don’t believe the 5” and 7” UConnect equipped vehicles have any remote capabilities. GM has had on-Star in all vehicles for a long time, which can remotely disable a vehicle.

Only the 8.4 Uconnect has remote capabilities, and they are very limited. It is not like On-Star.

This is the reason I don't go through car wash anymore. JT in neutral and foot off brake to allow the track to roll the truck into the wash. When get to the end and the light changes to "go" I have to apply brake and put jeep into park then back into drive. FREAKS out the car behind me seeing the brake lights come on and watching my jeep stop. Oh boy scared the hell outa me the first time this happened as well. So no auto car washes...

I’m not arguing, but I’ve been through car washes and didn’t have to do that. Was there a change in years? I don’t use the auto wash all the time, but the few times I have I didn’t have to do anything except drop it in gear. I have a ‘20 Sport, if it matters.

I did a little research after people - yeah, some of them here - said it was one person, a star, who died and it was law suites that did it. Sorry, no. It's an industry issue and multiple people have died, kids involved, even.

Again, it's in the book. And this is a good example of why it's there - people taking shortcuts, not thinking...........

That's a great inquiry. I have a 2021 Mojave if that makes any kind of difference..

I try to ignore the “nanny state” claims, but sometimes I have to wonder, why? In this case, why neutral with no brake? This is pretty much a poster case for why “Park” exists.

My scenario was, it was a long wait and on level ground (gas station), so there goes the parking brake immed then to Neutral. For one thing keeping my foot free from constant pressure of the brake pedal, plus Neutral is there right by Drive. Done this so many times before in other cars, parking brake is solidly set, it won’t move.

So, I’m with you in that I don’t really like my vehicle doing things against my explicit instructions (tried to back up my previous Ram truck with the door open and it didn’t like that), but this is a stretch. Shifting to park is easier than shifting to neutral and using the parking brake and offers no advantages. I can see how you would be annoyed, maybe, but that doesn’t seem like a common occurrence. I’m only one point in a data set, but I’ve never shifted to neutral and set my parking brake. Idk if this is a hill you want to even consider defending.

I do this all the time. I slip it in neutral, while waiting, so the truck won't have power to the wheels. I keep my foot on the brake, but set the parking brake if I have to move around (like getting wallet out of pocket). As long as I put my foot on the brake, before putting it back in drive, there are no issues. You have to put your foot on the brake to move it in and out of Park, and going to Neutral doesn't require grabbing the handle and pressing the red button.

Understood, never on a hill, like I said particular scenario. Yes I should've read the ENTIRE manual, but this is an added safety feature that is now enforced by software, another annoyance to relearn stationary modes.

In car audio is already sent to multiple "agencies" who also can now shut off your JT for good should they decide to.
