It's the AutoPark system. You need to keep the brake applied, your butt firmly in the seat, and the seat belt done up. If not, you have to apply the brake, put it in park, wait a few seconds, and then shift back to drive.

I switch from drive to neutral all the time while waiting in line at the drive thru and the gas station. The foot has to stay on the brake pedal or the AutoPark kicks in.
Not on mine, I always shift into neutral at lights/ traffic etc. No need for the foot to remain on the brake (dazzle those behind you), just touch the brake to shift back into drive and off.

That is true. I keep my foot on the brake, for safety reasons, but it just has to be on the pedal when shifting back to Drive to keep the AutoPark from kicking in.

Does it really matter? It's a safety feature that, as mentioned earlier, helps prevent accidental deaths. I can't understand why people are so against life-saving features like this just because 'it annoyed me a little one random afternoon'.

Nope, I’m not against it, just didn’t know it was there at the time and couldn’t immed re-engage Drive. I understand the purpose now, it’s a good safety feature. Thanks all, be safe!

I’ll go to Costco when there are NO lines??

I'm not going with the Nannie-State yet either, but if it was really about safety I can assure you WAY more people have died because of phones

How do you disable the interlock that puts the truck in park when you've put it in neutral and open the door?

You don't. Some say you can leave the seat belt buckled, never tried that myself. Never had a reason to.

Using the Winch. The first time I tried to winch the truck it made me think I was losing my mind. I knew I'd shifted into Neutral. The first five times. Turns out the truck was gaslighting me. ? Makes winching harder when you are dragging the truck with its transmission locked in Park. And you don't even realize it. Until you wonder why the wheels aren't turning. Eventually I just put the transfer case in neutral. But it would be simpler for the truck to just stay in neutral when you leave it.

I guess I could try to squeeze out through the window. ?
