That sucks I have the older ones and they look great. I even have aftermarket steps that wouldn't have needed that goofy looking universal fit.
EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS … I purchased 2 front mid flaps from summit racing, knowing that they warehouse their parts and not drop ship, I hope these are the old version.

If it so happens that I got 2 old versions, I’ll offer them up here if anyone is interested.

Turns out my hunt was fruitful … I was able to buy two sets of front flaps from Summit Racing, they’re the “old” version. If anyone else wants the other front flaps. Let me know …

I got my flaps from Weathertech directly and early. I put them on this weekend.

Pros:
  • Super easy install
  • Nice fit and finish. Looks OEM.
  • They fit with the Jeep Performance Parts HD Rock Rails now with the revision.
    • The extra recessed area for side steps doesn't really intrude on the look with the HD rails.
Cons:
  • The front flaps have three different sized nuts for the 4 bolts that go through. 5/16, 7/16 and 9/32...wtf
  • They use ONE push in plastic fastener so there's no easy removal/re-install for serious off-roading.
    • I have a doubt that the fastener is actually needed for anything other than cosmetic purposes. Might be able to put a push pin in behind it to keep the fender liner secured and that way you only need remove the bolts if necessary.
  • Installing the rear flaps is a small chore as the nuts have to somehow get into this waffle structure behind the rear fender and the waffles are spaced very small. The easier way would be to put the bolt through the rear and secure it with the nut in the wheel well.
For my application I think they might work. I say might because I have 2.5" lift on 37" tires so we'll see if they are long enough to deflect mud and other gunk from spraying down the front door handles and rearward.

Overexposed so you can see the flap from the tire:

I am returning the ones I just got from Amazon due to this UNIVERSAL garbage look. Item is not as depicted and it was an open box. I can assume someone else thought they looked like crap also.

LOVE the weathertech on our JLU 4xe - but the screws they supply to install the rears are rusted already. Will replace with stainless and paint the heads.
Jeep didn't make one that fit the 4xe correctly for some reason. I ordered them through Benny here, it's a Rubicon JLU 4xe, and they didn't fit our 4xe, so sent them back and got the weather tech. They have the bump out for the rock rails - nice, but the rock rails came off right away to put on steps (RSE power steps in the end)
I have the mopar flaps on my JT (Overland) and actually like how those install a bit better.

I've had weather tech on 2 JTs and 2 JLUs. (Currently have a JTRD and a JLUR 4xe). Live in MN and couldn't imagine driving around without the flaps... our current year lack of snow not withstanding. I also wish they would have used SS for all the hardware (and you think they would considering the intended use of these). But I've had great luck spraying either some Ballistol or CRC corrosion Inhibitor on the hardware when I installed them.

Actually on my last jeep I threw their hardware away and used the plastic rivets that were there from the factory … worked well, drive the whole Pacific Ocean in the worst winter weather I have ever experienced. They did well… I will likely install the same way again.

The only itch in my mind is easy removal, so thumb screws, wing nuts and come sort of u nut may work … I’ll figure something out
