I’m getting my 305/70/17 A/T’s mounted tomorrow on my Sport S / no lift other than Rubi takeoff suspension and shocks.
Lookin at a rubi take off myself. Did you end up with a height increase vs stock Sport S? Any downsides if you like the Sport S suspension already after the switch?

I ran the 285/75-17 KO2s, but ended up going 315/70-17 in the end. The fuel economy difference was almost zero. The 285/75 measures 33.5" unmounted and 33.0" on the Jeep. The listed dimensions of tires are always on a specific wheel width, at specific PSI, and including the bulge of the sidewalls. You and I measure totally differently, in a straight line, with weight on the tire, at different PSI usually. That's why a "34" only measures 33 on the Jeep.

Anyhow, the 285/75 is a nice option, but personally after running both there is no reason at all in my mind not to just do the 315/70.

WOULD I NEED TO DO ANY MODS OR RECALIB. IF I GO WITH THE 315/70 r17 ???? I HAVE THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY WHICH IS SAME SPECS AS THE OVERLAND

Need? No. But it's a good idea because if you recalibrate the computers your transmission shift points and your speedometer will be where they ought to be again.

You REALLY should recalibrate for your speedo and shift points. Are you talking on stock wheels or aftermarket? That' a 35 which will likely rub a bit on stock wheels not to mention that that's too wide a tire for stock wheel width.

I have spent a lot of time looking today since I am new to all this and it looks like I could go with 285/70/ R17 and be safe on needing no lift or spacers... Do you think I would need to do any recalib. for speed on that size ? What rims (and size) do you have? I know I would need to go down a size, but the offset options are a little confusing to me....

I wanted my max tow to retain as much of its tow rating as I could, while getting more trail worthy tires than the Bridgestone stock tires. I chose Falken AT3W in 255-80-17 at 33.1" spec height, stock width, E rating, They perform very well on rocky trails, highway, rain, snow. They are heavier than stock (52 vs. 34 lb each) but 10 lb. lighter than the Rubi size C rated tires. Flaken has 3 sizes in the 34" range if you check their website, ranging from 33.9" to 34.8" spec height and weights from 65 to 75 lb., widths 11.1 to 12.7". They are 285-75, 315-70, and 35x12.5.
