Both of our boys learned to drive, and took their driving test, in an F350 Crew Cab, Dually, long bed pickup. Needless to say, they both can drive pretty much anything!

One of my coworkers has 5 daughters, and the oldest wanted a MT, 2 door JK as her first vehicle. I took him out and let him drive my Jeep (the exact one she wanted). After about 2 minutes driving that Jeep, he decided he couldn't afford what she would do to his insurance with that Jeep.

I really do wish that I had learned to drive on a MT. I had to learn how to drive one probably the worst way possible. I was 22 at the time. It was a rental car, which was a good thing. Bad thing - it was a rental car picked up in central London. So I had to learn how to drive a MT without any instruction, driving on the wrong side of the road, with the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car, in one of the largest cities in the world. Oh, and it was before GPS, so I was having to rely on paper maps to find my way out of town. I was successful though - didn't stall it once, and I didn't drive down the wrong side of the road the whole trip.

I must have a completely different jeep experience than most people. My mojave is planted and direct. I would describe it as neither wandery nor vague. Its like night and day to the last jeep (2 door jk) i drove. I can let go of the wheel and it stays pointed if the road isn't too heavily crowned.

I remember reading in the "manual transmission regret" thread someone described the throws as vague and rubbery and I couldn't help but think "what vehicle are you driving?" because I consider the throws on the jt very directed and precise, even if a touch longer than I'd prefer.

It's not the magic carpet ride my K900 had, but my jeep feels great on road overall.
glad I’m not the only one. My Sport 6MT drives like a friken Cadillac compared to our JK sport 6MT. The gear shifter feels amazing, even compared to both of my Miata’s I’ve had.I can let go of the wheel for a solid 1/2 mile on the highway without even the thought of wander. And I’ve driven 100s since I work on them, idk if people are expecting something that’s not possible? Or just new to Jeeps? But these are so solidly built and drive so amazing then any wrangler of the past

I had a 6MT JK 2 door that was squirrelly as hades, but the steering was tight. Had. JKU before that while in Germany, and I got that one up over 100 MPH on the autobahn. My JT isn't nearly as squirrelly, but it does wander all over the road. It seems to be better since I got the steering box replaced, and better still since putting a steel bumper and winch on the front. But still nowhere near the JKs.

Both stock? We bought both new and both are currently on stock suspension, 31ā€ on the JK are the only really none visual mod. Has 120k on it now, all steering in perfect condition still. Never had any wander or weird issues on either. 2 doors are just insanely more unstable due to wheelbase alone. Steering isn’t the issue, wind and a box riding on sticks is lol. The JT is so much better at not being abused by the environment while going down the road. Have no difference in steering feel between the two in my opinion

All stock suspension. Mostly just tire changes (33" duratracs on the JKU for the German winters, 255/80/r17 pizza cutters for the JK, and rubi take offs for the JT. The JK was definitely due to the wheelbase, but the JT just has a lot sloppier steering than either of my JKs.

It should 100% not be that way, I see you replaced the box already. Try driving without the stabilizer could tell you something since out OEM ones are trash, even after 12 supersedes. Either way, it should be super tight

Sorry, didn’t mean to make this thread to bag on the steering vagueness. Sheā€˜s having a blast driving the jeeps.
Sits way up high in traffic. No body blind spots. Brakes are great. Curbs are a nun-issue. Everyone waves, she thinks she’s the bomb.

Not a good combo. My youngest is learning and this Jeep platform is not the best. Wanders, touchy gas pedal in the 2.0, vague steering in the JT, always wanting to take her hand off the wheel to wave at other jeep ?. Not very good for student drivers. Oh, and limited places to stick the magnetic signs.

Our oldest learned to drive in a 2001 Cherokee in 2015, talk about loose steering! We liked the fact that he was sitting a bit higher in the even to an accident. Youngest learned to drive in a Honda Pilot and Dodge Ram 1500. It is what it is, as someone else said, if they can drive those kinds of vehicle, they can drive most anything.
