My JT does not wobble or sway. Been right since day one. In 1989 when my daughter was ready to learn to drive I through her the keys to my 74 CJ5 and told her to go drive in the lower field for a couple of hours. Them we went on the road in my F250. She took her test in my wife's T bird she has been a good driver ever since.

I learned to drive on a manual YJ, parents wouldn't let me use 1-2 to start. Starting in 3rd really educates you on good control over the clutch...

We have out 2005 TJ with 6 speed that I'll be teaching our son to drive in when the time comes.

It's heartwarming to hear stories of all the kids learning to drive manual transmissions. My daughter learned on my TJ. The skills came in handy when she applied for a job washing semi trucks at age 19. Cute little blonde 5 foot nothing wearing heels to her interview. "Yeah, well you have to know how to drive a manual transmission for this job."

"Sure, no problem!" She hopped into a rig and jockeyed the thing around to their amazement.

My son has been learning on my JL and his Jetta, both manuals. When I said that I was thinking about getting an automatic on the JT, he said, "Dad, what would you do that for?"

The kids like rowing their own gears and I like that it makes them focus a bit more on what they're doing behind the wheel.

Mine loves driving the JT. Keep commenting on how well it drives and how much better it is than my ex wife's Honda Odyssey or her husband's Dodge Caliber.
He has learned to drive it weighed down with camping gear and people, work on it in the shop,
drive it naked, and did a good chunk of Schnebly Hill, BOH trail. Not ready for shelf roads yet, but he did a good bit of it.

Wouldnt be a Jeep thing if you didnt put one of those magnets upside down for fun and let their imagination of why you did so go wild.

Yea my daughter wants to drive my JT all the time and I won't let her. She wanders far to much in a car that won't wander unless you make it. So she's not getting behind the wheel of my truck. She has her own nice car

I am with you.
Zero wandering or other steering issues.

To the OP…maybe there is an issue that needs to be addressed in the steering/suspension that is causing that feel your getting.
I’m used to the Gladiator and don’t really notice it. major improvement over past Jeeps. Just not that good for new drivers or those not used to it.

In 2012(ish) my daughter learned how to use a manual on a 1988 Wrangler. Right in the driveway. Ours has a steep portion but is short and flat top and bottom. Drive up in 1st, shift into reverse and back down in gear. No coasting allowed. She learned how to manage braking and throttle in reverse. Then when she got that, It was basic hill start. Stop on the steep part and don't spin tires (she fixes divots) and no stall or burnt clutch. Then it was time to shift to 2nd and stop. No stalls..

Mom took her out on dirt roads and said she shifted like a pro. Keeping it on the road.. working on it. When she was done she could drive anything. Including 2001 2500 diesel with 8ft bed and ext cab towing a livestock trailer

Way better than the '67 CJ5 that I learned on. Most of the time it had brakes...

I took my drivers test in a YJ. Parallel and 90 degree back parking was a breeze. I’d say Jeeps are a great vehicle to learn in!

Agreed, I have no problem controlling mine with one finger on the steering wheel. Not that I do that regularly, but I have a friend that likes to jerk off broncos and say they are much safer and they don’t go all over the road like my Jeep apparently does. He prob should be on jackass for when they drink the pony juice. So he had to be proven wrong.

At age 14, I worked after school at a Shell Gas Station on Lake Avenue in Altadena, CA. The two Frenchmen who owned the station had me pumping gas, doing lubes and oil changes and eventually tune-ups and brake jobs. It was necessary to move cars about and the two taught me to drive in a variety of vehicles, mostly stick shifts. I drove their old rickety tow truck and delivered customer cars. At 16, I got my license and then managed another of their stations while attending and graduating Jr High to High School. Point is, over the last 60 years I have driven just about everything there is, and I have found none of the issues spoken so often about Jeeps as a danger to myself or my passengers. True, you herd them not drive them, but that is an expected result of the type and design of vehicles they are. Teach your children the responsibilities of vehicle operation and ownership, of respect for the rules of the road, and to be curtious drivers and we will all benefit from it.

My first born learned on my 2015 JKU 6-speed. He enjoyed it so much, his first car was an MT Acura CL. He's now teaching his 15 y.o. sister to drive with a clutch pedal. She's going to have to take her driver's test with a manual transmission because we don't own an automatic.
