Can you put the Rubicon tires on the sport/sport s with the normal fenders? I assume you can just wanted to make sure or find out how big you can go .

Everything is going to be almost exactly like the JL. 285/70 R 17 should fit the Sport and Overland and 35" tires on a Rubicon with the higher fenders. Just go on the JL forum and look around. The basics are the same just the rear bed/bumper areas will be different and the tops of course.

Rubicon tires (285/70-17 LT-C) measure out to be 0.25" taller than Sport/Sahara/Overland tires (245/75-17 P) so you're only talking 1/8th of an inch difference in diameter at any given point around the tire. It's a VERY small difference.

Rubicon tires will fit any other Gladiator with ease.

Check out my 2011 JK Sport S -- rockin' Rubi takeoffs with no lift/rubbing = bought them from a WranglerForum member the day he took delivery (3 miles on his odometer)...best $600 I've spent on Blondie

Actually pMetric tire size is (width in MM) / (sidewall as percentage of width) / (rim diameter) . So 285/70r17 is 285mm wide (11.22") x 70% of width (199.5mm or 7.854") and 245/75r17 is 245mm wide (9.645") x 75% of width (183.75mm or 7.233") and 255/75r17 is 255mm wide (10.04") x 75% of width (191.25mm or 7.53")
So for tire heights 285/70 is 7.854" x 2 + 17 = 32.708"
and stock JL size 245/75 is 7.233" x 2 + 17 = 31.466"
and stock JK size 255/75 is 7.53" x 2 + 17 = 32.06"

granted there is some variance depending on tread type and sidewall construction and stiffness as the numbers are for unladen size. Soft sidewall tires on a 4 door (more weight) will sag more than stiff LT tires on a 2door so height from top of tire to ground for said 4door with soft tires will be shorter than top of tire to ground on 2door with stiff wall LT tires of same size.

okay so i got a little long winded.. just trying to show there is more than a 1/8 inch difference between stock 245/75 tires and 285/70 rubicon tires... but.... some days I wish I could be a dog with nothing to do but stare at the dryer.... woof

Great info^ .truth is I wanted to understand but just could get my head around it! This is a new vehicle too. All dimensions, angles, views. Will take eyes on it to make sure. There is nothing worse than waiting this long and then having a goofy looking JT that won't tow and can't haul plywood.

The waiting is going to kill me for sure (or the wife will when she gets really sick of me checking the jeep site and forum everyday for any pricing news) assuming they don't price it out of my budget, I will have one and the first thing I am going to do is shove a sheet of plywood in the back and post pics from about 30 different angles

Perhaps I should have stated that I actually put a level and tape measure on the Rubicon tires and the Sport tires and the Sahara tires, and the result is that the Rubicon 285/70-17 is only 0.25" taller than the Sport 245/75-17. Which means that at any given spot around the circumference of the tire, there's only 1/8th of an inch difference Rubi vs. Sport.

So, when I said that there is very little difference in tire height at all, I meant that in the real world there is very little difference.

I assumed that would have been understood. My bad.

Really? That is very interesting. remember the thread about why a Rubi looks bad ass? Well, it isn't a big diff in tire height. That is good to know, also, because I was worried my sport would look like it was on weenie tires the way some base models do. I am also relieved that others do strange things like measure and compare tire circumferentials and then document their findings with complete trust that they will be understood. I love me some JT!!!

given what we know now.

so, in a nutshell, you can bump up to 33"s on a Sport S without a needed lift? would you need to re-gear?

Yes, the "33s" are actually 32s just like on the other models so they'll fit perfectly.

Do you need to regear? No. The JLU with 3.45 gears still runs sub-7 second 0-60 passes with a 2.5" lift and 35" mud tires, and the JT has even deeper standard gearing, so it should be perfectly fine.

Wow - never expected that. Thanks for the effort

Jeep Gladiator Sport S
I’m researching this topic and found this thread. I just bought a 2020 Jeep Gladiator Sport S a few weeks ago, and I’d like some knobbier tires but don’t know jack about lifts or tires.

Has anyone figured out what fit on these bad boys yet. Thanks in advance.

Also. Anyone heard of anyone making a bed cap yet?
