This mod was not my idea. I am putting a Harbor Freight Apex 12,000 pound winch on my Gladiator. When I dropped the winch into place, the positive cable that comes out of the back of the control box was pressing against my grill. I was not happy with that. It was the end of a longish day, so I quit working on the Jeep and went to surfing the internet. One of the members here, kevman65, commented on my bumper install thread that others had moved that positive cable. He even found the link for me. Here is the thread:

I made this mod this morning. I took a few extra pictures to document to change. I'm posting here so maybe the mod won't be so hard to find for the next guy (buried in a long winch install thread).

Here is the problem:

Control box removed and a photograph taken so I can remember where the wires go. :)

New hole drilled using a step bit. The hole is 3/4".

This is how I had to position the control box and cable to do the final tightening of the terminal nut.

Finished! I put some duct tape over the old hole. It doesn't matter, the box is not waterproof.

If the old hole is 3/4", you can get a blank plug at hardware store in electrical department.
Shiny chrome or black, your choice.

Glad you got it sorted out. 👍

I had the exact same problem. I relocated part of the control box under the hood with a custom bracket. The wireless controller module, wireless switch and control cable plug inside the cab. Took awhile to rewire everything, but I think it came out pretty good.
