Have a 2020 JT Rubicon with 8.4 infotainment set up. Love the truck no complaints. Not a huge issue for me but now that the CarPlay is not available thru the head unit, the wireless connection takes over and CarPlay starts (but no usual CarPlay screen set up). The sound quality is very scratchy like the speakers are blown? Turn the radio on (I-hart radio works fine) sounds fine, normal. Not technically savy at all so I am wondering if this is a phone issue or head unit issue. I have reset the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and shut off the phone. Also tried the USB port on the dash an console (this is the one I have been using since I bought the truck). No difference. I know this is vague, but I didn’t think CarPlay is s a subscription service. Any help would be appreciated before I make a trip to the dealer. Have to also get the side lane monitor system fixed as the passenger side mirror yellow icon stays on…. Thanks in advance.

Yes bought a new Apple brand ? USB cable and had no difference except lightened my wallet. I’ll try the battery disconnect next. Just wasn’t sure it was a phone problem or the head unit. Glad they talked me into the extended warranty……

Try the system reboot and see what happens. It can take up to 24 hours for the head unit to return to normal operation.

It could also be a failure in the USB hardware. If a reboot doesn't help, it will probably need to go to the dealer.

Yea afraid of that. Have a list of small issues they can fix while they have it. Can’t wait to see how long they keep it! I’ll report back about the battery disconnect. Thanks for your time.

Curious what port you’re using. I noticed most all of my issues when away when I went from the USB-C to Lightning cable.

I use the hidden port in the center console. All of my problems turned out to be issues with the phone port that were masked by replacing the cable every six months. Once I replaced the phone (Galaxy S8 to S21), the problems went away. The higher end Anker USB cables have always worked well for me.

Again, I am not tec savvy at all. Have been using a usb cable from staples for 2.5 years since I got the Gladiator new. Have no ideal what type or maker. Though I tried a new Apple usb cable I just bought yesterday, and no difference. Should I try the lightning cord? Sorry for my ignorance, I just don’t use computer equipment much. As for the port I am using, it is the one located inside the console. But have tried all of them including the rear seat. No change. Do you have the brand USB cable that you switched to? If disconnecting the battery doesn’t work, I’ll try another type of USB cable preferably the one that worked for you. I would rather try solving the problem myself than resorting to dropping it off at the Dealership. Purely for time constraints with dealers troubleshooting/availability of parts ect……. Again thanks in advance.

There are several possibilities for your problem. To get you started:

1. Use the USB Jack in the dash until everything is working. The one in the center console is more finicky. I think it has a slightly weaker signal, requiring use of a shorter USB cord. In general, test with short say 3ft cord. I assume you are using a lightning-to-USB cord.

2. Which iPhone do you have? Is the software up to date?

3. As per AZMOJAVE’s question, see if your phone starts charging when connected. If not, the phone connector may be full of lint, or there is a problem with the cord, or possibly but less likely with the Jeep USB Jack. You’re safest with an Apple brand 3 ft (1 meter) cord for troubleshooting.

4. If the phone IS charging, you’re connected. Make sure the volume on your phone is all the way up before you plug in. Always control the volume using the Jeep controls., not the phone. Low phone volume risks degrading sound quality.
Edt: This is true for BlueTooth, not necessarily for corded connection, but it roots out a potential problem with the phone.

5. Test using music you have already downloaded on the phone. We don’t want the phone’s cell reception to interfere with testing sound quality, just need it to activate access to your library.

If all this gets you nowhere, you’ll want to check the Smartphone Projection Manager (roughly Page 44 of the manual), and possibly delete and the add back your phone to the Jeep’s system. And, as a long shot, make sure you have pushed all your fuses under the hood down firmly. if none of this works, borrow someone’s phone and see if they have the same problem. If its just you, there are some other settings on the phone to examine, just post or message me.

OP - I have the same vehicle set-up and iPhone 13 Pro. I use the center console and lighting cable and never had an issue. Always use the iPhone cable (which you say you have now). If you eliminate your phone as the issue, the battery re-set might clear the problem. Also, there's an equalizer setting on your phone. I use "Late Night" as it makes music louder and increases bass a a little. May want to check your setting to make sure you don't have some undesirable setting turned on. Go to: Settings > Music > EQ

Good luck

Make sure projection mode or manager is enabled. I believe settings -> bluetooth.
