I see you have the nuthouse rack on there - it's what I'm running, and I absolutely love it. Have you asked if they can make it flush with the roofline? They are amazing at building exactly what you want, every single rack is handmade to order. It's not cheap, or fast, but it is amazing.

If I were to go with an "expedition" rack again, I'd probably get a copy of the Nuthouse made because I love the design but I've found I can have an aluminum one made to spec for about half the price. Nuthouse is absurdly proud of their stuff though i will admit the craftsmanship is pretty fantastic - I just can't fathom paying aluminum/stainless canopy prices for a rack once you start including side boxes.

The Nuthouse is pretty awesome, and the amount of options available are absurd given how custom they can get it. One of the gents that works for them reached out to me about their product and I'll probably go through some back and forth. It does look like they'd be willing to make the rack custom to anyone's requirements. That gives me all sorts of ideas of what you could to for a really cool Overland capable bird dog rig (my wife and I help at field trials and hunt tests when time allows, I do a lot of hunting deep in the way-back).

My build itself is going slower than anticipated, and I'm largely self-limiting here so that I don't end up buying stuff that doesn't work together and I have to eat up garage space or sell it at a discount to move it. It's pretty likely I'll have what I want by Colorado ice-out in the high mountains... whenever that will be this year.

Have you looked at MaxModular?
They came up in early searches but admittedly their website was kind of a PITA to be able to figure out the things I wanted. The 18" height will be close but I believe no cigar unless I do a mix of tower mounts from Yakima or another brand.

I've been looking as well because I need a rack to carry standup paddleboards. I also want one that works with a factory tonneau cover. I am leaning toward Max Modular, either their 18" with tonneau cover mounts which are 2 1/2" to bring it to 20 1/2" or their 22" universal rack. It's that or Yakima and that won't work with a factory tonneau

Out of curiosity how long are your SUPs? The factory tonneau was one of my original requirements but it's looking increasingly abysmal that I'll be able to keep it and have all the options I'd like to be able to support on my rig. Honestly it was a nicety when I bought my truck, I only wanted the Cold Weather / Remote Start package and it came with the tonneau for that rig.

My longest SUPs are 12'6". As much as I'd like a 14', it's just to difficult to store.

Any update on what you ended up going with? I have some 14' BKC kayaks on the way.

I went with the Treck racks by RoadArmor... Unfortunately their three week estimate turned into 8 weeks and they're still not here. I should have the rack next week to do a fit up.
