I know there are probably a thousand threads on the Aux battery but I have a question that I cannot find the answer to. Dealer technician told me that if I continually turn OFF the Autostart the Aux battery will not charge. It doesn’t sound right again I can’t find an answer online or on here.

I had some warranty work done and I am trying to build a relationship with this dealer as I bought the Gladiator used from a non-Jeep dealer.

I kept the stop start turned off, no problems until battery issues at 2 1/2 years 45,000 miles. disconnected the small battery and replaced the start (main) battery a year ago no issues at 75,000 miles.

Your tech is wrong. Your batteries are in parallel most of the time and are both receiving a charge, even with the stop start switch off. Building a relationship with this tech may not be the best idea. Perhaps you could of misunderstood what he was saying?

I’m about to hit 50k miles. I’ve been turning the auto start off first thing when I get in the vehicle since I bought it new.

No issues with the aux battery or main battery. Both original equipment from factory. I’m not saying the guy is wrong but it hasn’t affected my truck

Thank you all for the replies and information. I’m weary of building a full trust relationship but I need them to do the warranty work until it’s out of warranty. So really I need them to feel like we have a trusting relationship so they don’t shut me down when I need work. I’m currently trying to get them to replace the filler neck as I have been experiencing the fuel “burb” issue. But that’s on another thread.

Not how it works, the engine is charging the batteries regardless. I turn off ESS in town and on shorter trips to save the battery.

"Build a relationship"? My service department dislikes the sales department greatly within the dealership and thinks they are a bunch of unethical pukes. Now, my local dealer is a large regional stock market listed entity (Lithia), but I believe other than maybe some old school smaller family owned dealers there is not much connection between the two. I wouldn't buy a vehicle from my local dealership but sure will go to the Service Department. Sales has a bad rep while the service side has a better one within the community...

My truck is going on 4 years old with original batteries. I turn the switch off every time I drive my truck. Haven't had a bit of trouble. Good luck. :like:
