When ESS turns off the engine, the AC stops cooling. Once the cabin reaches temperature, ESS operates normally. You cannot rely upon the climate control to always keep ESS at bay.
Well then I stand corrected. I could have sworn my jeep was still blowing cool air with ESS engine off. Probably just residual cool air blowing.

The fan does keeps blowing. The AC compressor shuts off with the engine. It's not really noticeable with a short stop. It's the long stops that get uncomfortable. If the cabin warms up enough, ESS will restart the engine to cool it down.

Yes, that makes perfect sense. I dont know why I thought the A/C compressor would keep running when it is belt driven by the engine. Probably just confused myself with the inverter powered, Coleman Mach A/C in my RV.

I've got nothing against the ESS system. Studies show that it can save money. I live in the desert and just don't like my cabin cooling interrupted. The necessary components have been upgraded to withstand the additional wear. Since I don't use ESS, I plan on not having to ever replace the starter.

Implementation of the ESS system allows Jeep to keep building inefficient vehicles. At least we have some control over it. The next stage will be an ESS with no control. Without an Administration change, that could be as soon as next year.
I have nothing against it either. As far as saving money, you will never recoup the money that you paid for it with the initial purchase. It was mentioned before about Manufacturers needing carbon credits.

However, ESS works just fine but you have to be smart enough to know how to maintain it or how to defeat it. There are plenty of owners that try to delete the Aux battery but end up causing big issues. I had an opportunity to look at a friend's 21 Willy's. They had no clue about ESS. When I showed the the dash display page for ESS, they were amazed at the prerequisites for ESS to be ready. Like the previous post, it has never been ready for them die to the LO temp demand. They looked at the page on their way home and turned the air off and Ess said Ready. They drive it daily. For those of us that let it sit for weeks at a time, need a trickle charger on it.
