Hello everyone if anyone can give me some guidance to solve my issue, ill be greatly appreciated

today finally i got around to install my dashcam and decided to use one of the axillary switch wires as I opted for it and make it useful.

i did good amount of reading and researches here before i start my job

anyway i have two splits in my dash cam wires. #1 is power #2 is Acc

i hooked up #1 (power) dash cam wire to #6 red/white axillary wire under the passenger dash

i hooked up #2 (Acc) dash cam wire to #5 pink orange wire

in the end, my dash cam is not turning on.
i thought #5 and #6 are constant power
Cables? You think i possibly blew the fuse for Aux switches?

any help would be appreciated, i dont want to hook my dashcam to OBD2 as the shop originally recommended

Did you use a 5 volt adapter like this one ?

If not, you might be pushing 12 Volts to a 5 volt dash cam.

no i didnt, did i just blow up my dash cam with 10amp of power? Lol
Possibly, if you have a usb cable to power it, try plugging it into one of the USB ports in the JT to see if it powers up. If it still powers up, perfect time to buy the adapter wire on sale on Amazon.

Now the issue is that i need to find a parking mode “DC” adapter kit, cant find it anywhere. I guess most of dashcams are made to be powered by usb c thesedays. My special edition Inavi( korean thinkware) is DC powered

USB-C is just a connector standard and still delivers 5.0V DC power just like mini/micro USB and barrel connectors. If you have a barrel connector instead of USB, you'll need to get a kit from the manufacturer or you'll need to measure the size of the connector for a universal kit. I believe barrel connectors are in 0.5mm increments but do not quote me on that one. Polarity also matters so manufacturer is generally going to be your better option.

But parking mode kits are typically just hardwire kits or kits with in-line batteries to allow extended runtime. You probably don't need one if you aren't leaving the camera running for days on end (e.g. only use when out and not at home) and can just draw down from the truck battery.

This thread was spot in for installing my garmin. I used a parking cable and wired it just like you. Ended up being attached to aux-3. Which is fine by me.

Works perfectly

I ran mine just how you described, OP. I would double check you didn't reverse the lines from the adapter. If it's the mfg's adapter, they likely have a volt step down capacitor in the line somewhere (most do from memory researching).

I noticed today the camera was burning hot to the touch today. Is there a chance i have it attached to a line with too much power?

Honestly there is not such a thing as a line with too much power ... Most of these devices are not 12 volt though ... Most have a small device to drop the voltage down to 5 volts ... If you have eliminated (bypassed) that, sure you could have damaged your device ...

In any event, after reading your posts, it is clear that you don't know what you are doing and have admitted as much ...

Honestly, if you dont want to fry something, it would be beneficial to find someone with some experience with electrical connections and enlist their help ...

What you are doing, (using the aux switches) is a good idea and works very well if done correctly.

If I had to venture a guess, id say that you need to buy a 12 volt to 5 volt adapter designed to be used in line under the dash and wire that in ... Ram (the mount people) make a very nice reliable one.

And if you would like some clarity, post up the model of camera you are using and we can check its specs to confirm the best course of action for you ...

I appreciate your candor and you are partially correct in that im a little out of my depth. Im not great at wiring in accessories but its not the first, or last time, ill do it. Just the first on this vehicle.

when I bought the Garman I got the parking cable to be able to wire directly to the accessory block knowing that the cable ran on 12 V. Which you can see in the diagram picture provided with the packaging. The camera should also run on 12 V as far as I know, but I certainly could be wrong about that.

it just seems odd to me that it’s very hot to the touch when plugged in, even the power cable is hot to the touch. Which is what led me to believe maybe I need to change my wiring set up.

One question would be can I wire the aux and power to the same line? Or do they have to be wired to two separate lines under the dash.

That device will not play well with the aux switches as they are programmable to remain in their last state (on or off) or to turn on/off with the ignition.

This camera has its own internal programming that switches its mode depending if your ignition is on or off ...

It has a 12 volt positive for power, a negative for ground and an accessory feed intended to connect to any wire that is only powered on when the vehicle is running ...

That way it can determine when to switch into motion sensing mode and only record when there is motion near your car ... And then when it detects a the car running it will switch to full time record mode ...

You could power it from the aux but it will defeat the design intent and be a bit of a hassle ...

If you want to only connect it to am aux switch, for the sake of simplicity, it wont work as designed but you could definitely turn it on and off manually which is a supported option ...

Otherwise, find a wire under the dash that is only powered when the truck is running and connect the aux wire to that and then use the truck aux for the power and program it to remain on all the time ... That would work as well ...
