So I picked up a new camper trailer and towed it home today. The first time I went to back up with the trailer hooked onto the Gladiator the brakes on the truck locked. I would put it in drive and it would move forward fine and then put it back in reverse and the brakes locked up repeatedly on the truck. In neutral it would roll backwards no problem. So I drove around the block parked in front of the house and search the owners manual for a reason why I couldn’t figure it out decided to try again and this next time it worked the brakes didn’t lock on the truck. Does anybody have a clue what’s going on?

I’m a little confused with the thread title, (trailer brake lock) and the description where you state the (truck brakes)are locked.

We need clarification before we can help you trouble shoot.

Does your trailer connection have a flat 4, flat 5, or round 7 pins?

Turn off your reverse parking sensors on dash.

Truck brakes were locked. Round seven pin connector. Door was shut all the way and my seatbelt was on. I do not think I have reverse parking sensors on the dash to turn off. It’s a sport S Max Tow.

3rd vote on the door being open. I have not experienced that with any other safety feature and I have all the safety group stuff including adaptive cruise. If I remember door ajar will lock the brakes without even beeping, opposed to safety group issues that beep first.

I tried to back my boat into the garage after a camping trip, and the brakes locked while backing up. The dash read-out said to "check surroundings." I believe the backup camera took the trailer as an obstacle, and immediately applied the brakes. It did it at the lake too, but managed to continue on. But this time, the Gladiator would not back up. I then went to the back-up camera app on the computer, and switched it on. The car then reversed with no brake locking. Maybe with the app activated, the Gladiator knows you're with trailer. The surprising thing is, I've taken this boat and an RV before, and never experience this locking brakes thing before. Wacky!

The AutoPark system monitors the seatbelt and the weight sensor. To backup with the door open, the seatbelt needs to be buckled and the seat needs constant weight on it. Otherwise, it puts the truck in park to keep you from running over yourself.
