The manufacturers don't get a bonus. The ESS system is a compromise to cut back the fines and allow the Gladiator to be built. The components are designed to handle the additional wear.
The manufacturer's bonus is the additional profit they earn instead of paying an additional CAFE based fines to the govt.

You do know there's a button on the dash to turn it off? Doesn't cost anything to push it after hitting the Start button.

ESS is part of the system and always active. There is no way to disable or delete it. There are multiple options to keep the engine from turning off when ESS calls for it, but that's it.
There is literally a thing to disable it. The majority of us have it.

Stick it to the man for $39.
Stop/Start Eliminator
Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling
every time the ESS light comes on.
Ditto, have it, love it, even though I have a manual shift where so many conditions have to be met that it would rarely function anyway. How many dry starts can your engine take with that 0-20 oil? (I run 5-30 now.).

Yes, I never understood the big issue with the start/stop button also. To me it's like the volume or setting the radio station when I get in and close the door. If I forget to press the start/stop button after I start to drive and happen to be in a situation where the engine turns off, I press the button, the engine starts and I am happy. Not a big deal, no different than changing the volume on the radio, only easier.

I still don't see what the big deal is that stresses so many people out.

I wouldn't say it's stress entirely but more of an annoyance. There is concern about engine components wearing down prematurely from cycling the system.

But on our vehicles as well as others there have been significant issues with the hardware/software that operate the system. In many cases (like Jeeps) they're needlessly complicated with an extra battery that can and will fail at the worst moment without notice. On her Bronco Sport its the switching mechanism that can cause the vehicle to randomly brick its self, typically in hot weather.

An eliminator harness or a tazer along with pulling the ground cable and fuse 42 is a cheap insurance policy against getting stuck in the middle of nowhere with dead batteries.

Sure lets bend those words as far as they can go.

The start/stop function was picked from a list of things manufacturers could add to get a CO2 *credit* from the federal government which equates to tax payer money financing the vehicles - hence a consumer tax before we even buy the cars which didn't drop in price btw.

The dumbest part is they could have made the button remember it's setting from the start. The entire program was part of the "green" agenda to curb greenhouse gases (like adding a second battery helped anything). The systems wasn't allowed to touch car functions like engine and transmission so it doesn't work when you turn up the air since it drained extra battery.

The Start/Stop function was just the easiest/cheapest of the low hanging fruit for the manufacturers to implement as it wasn't a requirement from the EPA. It was solely designed to give manufacturers a carrot to do what the administration wanted them to do.

I like how people just have to bend words to make a puff response (as in not thinking the conversation through). No one said they are "stressed" over it you decided to overlook everything said before your comment. Many people have posted ways to bypass a dumb system.

My point is it was a political device engineered and produced with the lowest rock bottom effort to get a tax credit. The Tazer Mini easily makes the system smart enough to remember it's setting or you can pay $500 to a dealer to do it for you. So the computer has the capability to do it but all the manufacturers decided to milk it both ways - get a CO2 credit and make people pay to turn it off or make it smart.

I don't plan on keeping my JT long enough to have wear a factor on anything but tires. I have pulled the fuse and done the disco on the aux battery along with a taser.
