The manufacturers don't get a bonus. The ESS system is a compromise to cut back the fines and allow the Gladiator to be built. The components are designed to handle the additional wear.
The manufacturer's bonus is the additional profit they earn instead of paying an additional CAFE based fines to the govt.

You do know there's a button on the dash to turn it off? Doesn't cost anything to push it after hitting the Start button.

ESS is part of the system and always active. There is no way to disable or delete it. There are multiple options to keep the engine from turning off when ESS calls for it, but that's it.
There is literally a thing to disable it. The majority of us have it.

Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling
every time the ESS light comes on.
Ditto, have it, love it, even though I have a manual shift where so many conditions have to be met that it would rarely function anyway. How many dry starts can your engine take with that 0-20 oil? (I run 5-30 now.).
