It is nice in a way that it is retractable vs having to undo a bunch of bungee cords. But, the sunrider + sunglasses combo works perfect enough for me!

I never really understood the need/want for a sunshade with a sunrider.
If the sun is too bright, close the top.

You are missing something - maybe we want the top open but filtered sun.
It's why I have a Spiderweb shade on mine and will get one for my wife's JLU (we don't have the sunrider)
There's such a thing as wanting the open air without the sun burning your scalp.

I prefer to not be cooked at every stop light. A shade is essential in the south.

That said, my $20 Alien shade will do the trick over a $199 retractable shade.

I dunno, if I had their top, I'd do their shade. That's a very reasonable price compared to other stuff.

The retractable shade allows easier operation of the sun rider from the drivers seat, which many sunshades do not.

199 isn't any more expensive than this -

$54 for the JL/JT model that fits the front opening only. Prime day was $19! Is the Sunrider as easy to operate now, no. Am I willing to be slightly inconvenienced for the $145 difference, yes.

I kept throwing around this idea of getting one of these but for me I run the alien sunshade and a DIY insulation I throw on top of it when I'm on long drives to quiet down the noise of the sunrider. And I take off the insulation when I throw the sunrider back yet get the shade. I do love the ease though of this sunshade but can't at this point give up my insulation setup. I also thought of throwing my insulation on top of the sunshade but the way this is designed is that it can only be closed when the sunrider is flipped open.

I would say the negativity is not towards the product, it's more towards the price point. Hope it works well for you!

$199 seems a little high. I would be slightly intrigued if it gets around the issue with my prior sun-shade experience, which is I hate the sun-screen hitting the top of my head (I'm 6' tall).

Correct, this only works with the Bestop Sunrider for Hardtop, they are tossing around the idea of making one for a soft top
