A post (not mine) from a different web forum. Yours has one additional digit so all bets are off if this is right or not. And the "006" in this example might be day 6 or day 365-6.

This method would make sense given the numbers on my boxes. Not cryptic at all.

They prefer it to be cryptic. If someone sees a date code of Jan 1, 2025 and another of Jan 2, 2025, they'll take the Jan 2 box. New boxes arrive on Jan 3 and the Jan 1 box again gets left behind by the consumer. The stores would have to let stock on the floor run out before replenishing it. But if you can't tell the date, you'll take whatever is there.

Makes sense for the company and stores. Just makes it more difficult for vehicle enthusiasts. I ain’t mad about it.
