Hey Guys,

I have a 2023 mojave with a soft top. I always have my phone connected to car through android auto and when I take a call with the soft top closed, folks can hardly hear me due to all the noise picked up by the built in bluetooth mic. Anyone have any thoughts on upgrading the mic with maybe a better noise cancelling one or adding an extra/external mic?

Anyone else experience, this and have thought of a solution? It could just be my jeep has bad mics.

Or should I just go back to using a bluetooth headset like its 2005!!?

Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem with the hard top. I've thought about opening the housing up and adding some sound deadening in that area. But haven't tried it yet

I also have the same problem with my previous Wrangler and my current Gladiator. Going over 30 with soft top is not recommended for an important call. Going over 60 with the hard top I get comments “what is that noise”. Mr hard top has the factory liners on it.

I sum it up to being a jeep thing. Not necessarily bad mics, but the design is just noisy.

The best solution I have used is a wired head set.

Yeah, the mic does work a bit better with the hard top up to a certain speed. At highway speeds, theres a lot of noise. I have my phone plugged into android auto all the time so cant use a wired mic.

I have had other soft top convertibles that didnt produce as much wind noise as the jeep so it could be a design issue as you said. I will try the sound deadning - doubt it will help much since the mic just picks up the wind noise.

I remember reading a thread awhile back where someone replaced the mic with one from a grand cherokee. I believe it was a vast improvement.

AirPod Pro 2 is the best and cheapest solution. I have a hard top with lots of sound deadening and the headliner. Big diff with the ANC on the Pro 2.

Hothead Headliners manufacturers a removable liner for the soft top. It is a Game Changer.

Newer iPhones have a Voice Isolation setting that is flat amazing. I talk all the time with my soft top down on the built in mic and people hear me perfectly, even on the Highway. If you have an iPhone check this setting out.

I had this with my soft top and it definitely helped.
Thank you both for sharing your experience!

We do have a Soft Top headliner for the Gladiator that not only helps reduce unwanted road noise and improve phone calls/radio, but it also helps regulate temperature (hot and cold). Here is the link:

Years ago I had this issue in wranglers so I got a jawbone bluetooth headset and it was a game changer at the time (bone conductive tech was great for filtering out noise). Now days I rarely take phone calls, if it's important they'll text or call me later etc....
