When I bought my Willys the passenger insert had some dings and scratches in it that were driving me crazy. I was going to just replace it but thought I would try to repair it myself and spray it sarge green to match the truck. I was going to replace it anyway so if I didn’t like it just revert back to plan A, but I’m loving the look. I wanted it a little more matte than it turned out but still digging it.

I like it, that looks good. I’m probably going to offend every Rubicon owner out there, but we were new to jeeps about 2 years ago, and I thought the bright red was too much / gawdy; it was a big turn-off. A darker matte, and/or paint matched looks good there, and I wouldn’t want anything big and bright.

Distinction Applied offers OEM painted panels for the JT at a reasonable price.

I painted these panels Hemi orange in my first Gladiator. Love the look.

I think it looks great! Definitely looks unique. The red on rubicons looks nice depending on the outside color, but some just dont match well at all.

Honestly, I think it looks awful. But it's your vehicle, so if you like it that's all that matters.

I like it! The Willys, to me, is a somewhat understated edition that harkens us back to the "golden" Jeep era. I remember the Kaizers and CJ's of old whose dash panels were the same color as the exterior. (Albeit, much more primitive than today's models.) That dash now matches the exterior body color. Nothing overstated. Very refreshing. But it's your vehicle, so if you like it that's all that matters.

Not bad. I thought I’d hate it. I think I’d hate it in hydro blue or any of the bright colors.
Thought it would look like an 80s hot rod. But it works.

I'm a Rubicon owner and agree with you. Not a fan at all of the red. With all the red thread and accents, I don't think I'll change mine though.

I love it.
Got a Rubicon, dont *mind* the red, but you have shown me that I dont need to keep it. I've got a Gator Green JT. I see a new project in my future.
Nice job, thanks for posting.

Did you do much, if any, prep before painting?

The paint came from touch up direct, you can get touch up pens or in a spray can.

I removed the panels to get them prepped, I sanded them down, cleaned really good and sanded more. You have to make sure they are cleaned if the dash was armor alled or cleaned with oily products the paint won’t stick. I masked off anything I didn’t want painted, mainly the instrument cluster panel. Sprayed primer, went sanded then sprayed the body color, once it tacked off I sprayed several coats of matte clear.
