Bumper close out panel - necessary?

Is the close out panel between the front bumper and the grille a necessary price of equipment? When you get an aftermarket bumper is it discarded?

if it’s not necessary and it gets discarded by almost any front upgrade (including an option to toss it when installing the MOPAR front aux light brackets), why is it there?

It is not necessary at all. It is not included with all models. It was the first thing I took off before getting a new front bumper. From my understanding, it helps to improve aerodynamics and thus fuel economy.

I put mine back when I installed the light brackets. The instructions show where to cut holes so it will fit back in place.

It's for aerodynamics and improves fuel economy. I did notice a decrease in mpgs when I removed mine, I lost almost 1 mpg. I gained most of it back when I installed my full width rugged ridge front bumper, it closed that gap back up.

putting closeout back on and having trouble finding screws. Anyone know what size they are or got a link?
