Good luck. We can’t make it, but have done this one as a family of 5 and enjoyed it. Big Bend is a fun area. Try to make time to see the two canyons in the park on the Rio Grande. Terlingua Ghost Town and Lajitas and the mayor that is a goat are fun.

Big Bend is awesome. This is from my trip there 2 years ago in my JK.
Have some health hurdles to overcome and I'll be back ASAP.
L O N G way down there. Black Gap isn't that difficult but getting to Black Gap is the challenge.

There a few campsites on the river where Mexico is *north* of you because of the way the Rio Grande flows.
Other than CO passes and places out west BB is where it's at.

We just wrapped up a 3 night stay in BBNP in a back country campsite along Old Ore Road. Never made it to Black Gap. There just wasn’t enough time. Maybe next time.

But Old Ore Road is out of the way enough that we blu saw 2 vehicles pass during our 3 days, and one of them was a ranger making sure we weren’t burning wood fires (we weren’t).

We did Black Gap yesterday. Lots of washboard gravel road just to get to and from it. Black gap itself isn’t terribly difficult, but it’s narrow and some washed out places it’s hard to get a good approach angle and my tires were into my bumper and inner fender a few times articulated and turning full lock. (had my sway bar disconnected). 2nd Pic below is of a jeep inner and outer fender someone left on the trail. Didn’t see another vehicle the whole way down Black Gap. (We went north to south).

It was worth the effort, but it eats up most of a day.
