Damn critters will attack other parts of a vehicle too. Parked overnight at my oldest son's place outside of Bailey Co. The bastard chewed through the evap hose on top of the fuel tank on my Grand Cherokee. Dealer had to drop the tank to repair it.

My personal opinion is to never use poison. Other animals eat the poisoned animals and die as a result. Hawks, foxes, etc.
Thanks. I was going to respond just to say that.

To add to that also, poison makes them literally hemorrhage form the inside out. I dont' like rats either as they carry diseases, but that is a really painful way to go. Glue traps are also bad as they are frantic to escape and sometimes chew off their own appenages, and end up dying slowly from starvation or being slowly eaten alive by other creatures.

Instant kill traps or repellant are much better.

I had issues with squirrels getting in my storage area and chewing anything plastic. They would chew through sealed plastic wrappers to see what was inside and love my Fish Bite (artificial bait).

Don’t rule out squirrels. They are just rats with a good PR person.

After being under the cover for the week when I opened the hood to disconnect the charger I found this.

That’s the power cable for my winch.
It also chewed the leads for my battery tender and left a turd on the ground underneath.
I was as going to name this thread “Dead Rat Walking” but I figured I should hold off on that until I find that the rat trap and poison work.
I will be putting rat poison under the hood when I store it for the week.
It didn’t touch the Chevy wiring.
At least it has good taste. lol.
Soy is used in the manufacture of some plastics. Rodents love the taste.

Its time to invest in a couple of natural born killers at the local pound, ask for outside farm cats, neighbor did this a couple of years ago brought home 2, nobody has had the chewers back since their arrival, no poison, no mess.

Best way I've found to get rid of rodents is a something a local farmer taught me. Take 5-gallon bucket and fill it halfway with water, place some sunflower seeds on top of the water so they are floating over majority of the surface. Place the bucket near a stone wall, or something similar in height. When they jump in to get the sunflower seeds they don't last long. Works on mice, chipmunks, squirrels and I'm sure rats.
If you ever want to go down a deep rabbit hole on all the ways to kill mice to probably include a bunch on the bucket and water method more ways than most can think of, I recommend the Shawn Woods YouTube channel.
