Hey guys,

Been a bit. 2021 Gladiator, love it. Not a ton of miles (9kish). Taking one of the kiddos off to Urgent Care I jumped on the highway and got on it a bit; not floored but close to it. It's a fairly gnarly merge so a quick pace is important.

Anyway- Can't tell you what gear the auto was in, but it seemed to let the RPMs wind up quite a bit before kicking up. As the 6 banger's yelling away, DING, CEL comes on. I was busy trying to avoid getting wiped by oncoming traffic but I think it was a few flashes. When I looked back down probably less than 10 seconds later it was gone.

I don't have a scan tool and I am not sure I need one, and if I do need one, I'm wondering the code gets caught in these sorts of transient situations.

Guess I really want to know if it's a semi-normal (well not normal) transient sort of thing or if I should be taking further action.

Thanks for your thoughts, hope all is well.

Could be bad fuel or detonation. Flashing cel is usually active misfire I believe.

A flashing cel that does not remain on is most likely a misfire. Not sure on the newer cars, but the older ones would not even have a code to look at.

Thanks guys. Remembered my Pops has a unit we can check it with. Will give it a look this weekend hopefully and see if something pops up.

And there we have it; pulled the code w/ my Dad and P0306. Also having an issue w/ the stop start suddenly, so I'll be bringing her in.

Just so I'm prepared- is a single misfire ever truly transient or is it generally a "well here we are, let's figure it out" type situation? I'm asking so I don't get shined on by the dealer who wants to move it out of the shop. I'm also dealing w/ a tough work schedule so if it's not an emergency I'd rather not treat it as an emergency.....but will if it need be.

Thanks guys

People Work?
My 2021 was throwing a single cylinder misfire like this under exactly the same conditions.
Dealer finally agreed to swap the coil pack and plug with the adjacent cylinder to see if the problem followed the ignition components or stayed with the cylinder. When they did the swap the problem went away and hasn't been back in some 8,000 miles since.

Here's the catch.
They also did the PCM flash from TSB Z37 at the same time.
So was it simply reseating the ignition components, or was the software update, or was it both?

I can tell you that the misfires were real and I could feel the engine shaking violently during one at high speed in the far left lane of four on a busy interstate.

So make sure that you've had all relevant software updates performed and ask them to perhaps check the coil packs and plugs.

Typical first visit to the dealer - "We cleared the code. Let us know if it happens again."

Might as well be ready for that.

Sounds like you were in the same boat I am currently in; thanks for the info. You confirmed my instinct and a chat w/ the tech this AM to schedule did as well- It'll keep happening every time you get on it, bring her in, which I will do this evening.

Thanks squad, much appreciated.

Got her back; smaller battery was indeed dead replaced & they couldn't replicate the misfire. They didn't seem to have tested very hard when I went to pick it up so I made them take it out on the highway and drop the hammer; nothing, which I guess is sorta good.

That said, picked up OBDLinkMX+ and will monitor it on my own.

Thanks all for your help.

Remember too, don't get over rushed on a trip to urgent care. Flooring it is only going to shave off a second or two on your trip. If your going 100 and get stopped or wreck, well that's self explanatory. Don't panic should always be your first rule of an emergency situation.

Appreciate the sentiment. For clarity's sake, it's a merge onto the Garden State Parkway, into the right lane. Right lane traffic generally is moving every bit as fast as left lane, so 75-80mph. I have a bit of onramp to work with, but hitting the lane proper at highway speed is critical not only to avoid problems for myself but to avoid problems for those already on the roadway. Not a dangerous situation at all, unless I chose to enter at 45, which I didn't, hence my jumping on the gas to get the truck to an appropriate speed.

We do often have people entering the roadway with plenty of room to do so, as I had, but at comically low speeds; with a 30mph mismatch objects that are not that close get real close real fast. Forcing people to decelerate or dip around you is something I seek to avoid. This was about acceleration, not top end.

If the situation were *that* sort of urgent I'd be going to the hospital, not urgent care, and I'd likely be in the back of an ambulance, not managing transport myself.
