Has anyone ever removed the entire center console? To the point where all you have left is the transmission stick and transfer case stick...

It drives me crazy to have a center console in such a compact cabin.

I am hoping someone has done it and, even better, that there is a kit to make it easier.

There's a lot underneath it that it hides. Cabling, power, USB, window connectors, air vents, etc. Not to mention the parking brake. I'm not sure what you could even do with all that stuff if you removed the console.

You might be able to fab up a shorter one, but I don't think you could remove it without having the guts of those things hanging out in the cabin.

Fair enough. It makes me want to tackle this and design a kit which reroutes the air to the back and also to the front seats for the summer time. Bummer of a realization that parking brake is probably the deal breaker here....

Thanks for pointing it out.

You would almost have to design something that looks OEM or keep a spare console to put back in when you ever decide to trade or sell it. One of those things that would only suit your tastes.

There was a time I had the factory center console removed from my old YJ when I was redoing the interior. That was a much smaller cab and honestly I missed it when it was gone to rest my elbow when I wasn't shifting. I replaced it shortly after with a replacement center console from Bestop that matched the new seats and I was happy to have it again.

There's not a lot of storage in the JT center console yes, but I guess I still don't quite understand why you would want it gone. It has never gotten in my way that I recall. What is it that you are looking to gain by removing it? Is it just that it's just not that functional to you so you would rather not have it?

Made me smile remembering adding a Steel Horse console to my '90 YJ standard shift back in the day. I like a good armrest when i drive...

If so that would be a good place to mount a cable actuated ox locker. That’s the biggest problem for these trucks is no room for the levers.
