The arrow pointing up/right is what confuses me. You pull the gas line out away from the truck. You don't remove it by forcing it up and toward the vehicle.

What a stupid diagram... lol
I have to lift and hold the fill nozzle to pull it up tight against the top of the fill tube - otherwise gas sprays out onto the jeep by the time the auto shutoff engages. I do like the "no gas cap" fillers with the little sealing door. The nozzle fits just right in those (not available on Gladiator).

Must be huge differences in nozzles and/or trucks.
Mine hasn't done that.
While I like the capless fillers, I'm not impressed with the implementation of same on the WK2. It sits as such an angle and restricts the insertion of the nozzle so badly you almost have to hold the nozzle in place. I've actually had one pop out on a windy day.

I did my thesis years ago on the impact of urban legends on regulatory agencies. Its a very real problem. There is a lot of unfounded speculation and trash science that leads to excessive, overly restrictive legislation, especially in the name of safety. A couple other examples that are starting to gain traction in getting reversed:

  • Cell phones causing instrument interference in aircraft. I'm actually a Aerospace Engineer, so this was one of the biggest for me. It just doesn't happen. Aircraft avionics are sensitive, but cell phones are not that powerful. Not to mention the minimal overlap in frequency bands.
  • You know those drip-proof gas cans? That was a California invention with a baseless claim that the mechanism prevents spillage and dripping. In fact, some studies suggest its worse. Other states and the DOT jumped on CA's bandwagon when they assumed they actually vetted the invention. Requirements are slowly being rolled back.
  • I won't even get in to the specifics of ethanol emissions, as the conversation will devolve into a environmental war.
I went back to the funnel with the drip proof gas cans. Way to much work to use. Pop in the funnel, open the can, pour in the gas. Oh, and don't spill. Hate the drip proof. I try to find old gas cans at yard sales.

I have been a professional technical writer for over 15 years. It's my job to take complex, detailed information and distill it down into something that's easy for end-users to understand. Suffice to say, I pride myself on being able to comprehend even the most asinine jibberish that barely literate people call documentation.

All that said, I have absolutely no idea what the F- this is supposed to mean...

Combat Engineer School, Pioneer, U.S. Army, 1967, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Scratched into the wall above my bunk was a diagram very much like this. It had a year date of 1944, and appeared to define the appropriate means of successfully engaging with women in France....... I wonder if the author having survived the war became the father of "how to" hieroglyphics.....

it means you should not practise coitus interruptus in the truck bed while inflammables are stored there…..

I've looked at it three times. I don't see anywhere that indicates up and toward the vehicle. It clearly looks like it's illustrating to pull directly out of the filler neck to me.

That reminds me of this warning we used to pass around when talking about fuel tank repairs for our cars -

"Thou shall not weld on an unpurged tank for the noise shall be very loud and thy friends would console thy widow in ways generally unacceptable unto thee."

It says put nozzle in and do nothing for 10 seconds remove and then place a gas can behind the Jeep but not with E85 in it

Penetrate for 10 seconds, pull out, then read a book and medicate?

Yes ,but those are usually found on "Found On Road Dead" and "Fix Or Repair Daily" vehicles.

The second nozzle image. It's pointing up and to the right. Presumably, if you're looking at the nozzle from that perspective, you're standing by the rear driver's side tire facing toward the front of the truck. Meaning... That up/right arrow is telling you to push the nozzle toward the truck bed.

Clickbait title baited me, so I'll take a stab having only read first post. Sorry if this is horribly off topic now...

Top part: after fueling, wait 10 seconds before removing fueling nozzle to prevent spillage

Bottom left: for more info, scan this QR code

Bottom right: fuel cans and other containers on the ground and not in the bed

Yellow corner: don't fuel with E85 gas
