I had my oil changed at Midas and they did a coolant pH check.

The coolant is too acidic with a pH of around 6.5. They said the coolant should be under warranty (2022 Gladiator Rubicon). Is that true? I never heard of fluids being under warranty.

I agree, it would, but why would they direct him somewhere else for a warranty? Unless they told OP they could do it for free and then tell the him to pay up.
They liked me too much to upsell me, I think, because I talked a lot about deer and boar hunting with the manager. I'm a vegetarian, but I didn't tell him that.

Well you don't have to eat them to enjoy shooting them.
I love mowing grass, but I don't eat it.

Oh, I'm fine with the shooting of deer. They are just big rodents in my mind. Best would be a clean shot through the neck that would take out a couple of squirrels on the far side.

interesting they are even checking that on a newer vehicle with no issues and OAT coolant.
Conventional coolants run higher, 9-10 perhaps? OAT is around 7-8
Is that really 6.5?

There's very little that can cause a drop in pH other than using improper coolant mix, too much water, or a combustion chamber leak acidifying the coolant.

if you don't lose coolant, haven't added any coolant and it seems to be fine otherwise - I'd probably do nothing.
The instructions for their strip say to not test coolant over 140 degrees, so hopefully you didn't just drive a long highway drive and get everything good and hot when they checked it.

You can have the ???, but I'll take the ???!

I'll get some pH strips and test it myself. 6.5 seems awfully low based on what you said.

I was looking through a junk drawer (for something else) and what did I find? Some pH strips! Don't remember ever getting them, but I'm sure at the time I thought "these might come in handy someday". Goes to show you that you should never throw anything away (contrary to what my wife says about all the stuff I've collected over the years).

pH strips says 8, which is just on the basic side, so I'm good, I think.
