I'm about to have my second windshield replaced.
The first time was in the first few months of ownership. Teeny tiny itsy bitsy chip you needed an electron microscope (or at least younger eyes) to see caused the crack.
A month or so ago, SMACK, here we go again. The hit was from who the heck knows, there wasn't anything directly in front of us. Resulted in crack bigger than a dollar bill - and running to the very top edge.
I put off getting it dealt with because I'm trading the truck on a 2022 and didn't want to fix it in may and then have it break again in June and do it all over again.
Bad idea!
The lady that coordinates glass stuff with my insurance company said no one had any openings until mid-August. Yikes! The truck will be long gone before then!
She asked me if I knew that "with some vehicles there will be calibration required....." and went on and on about that because the camera is attacked to the glass and removing the glass moves the camera.
I told her - nope, it's on the frame, not the glass, and you can even fold the windshield down. Oh.
She dug around after asking me what else might be close to me. She contacted a glass outfit in another city. Yeah, they can get me in at the end of next week. Whew. Oh, but what about glass? The guy said he'd check - yup, found one, coming out of Columbus and should be here middle of next week.
So later, the guy calls me to confirm he can get the glass, firm up the appointment - and he asks me a couple of questions and I knew instantly - hey, this guy knows his stuff! He knows about these!
He asked if I had different tires. I said yeah, but same diameter as stock, exactly the same, and he asked about lift - nope, it's sitting at factory height for these trucks.
Then he asked about where I lived - are the roads paved, gravel, any city streets and so on.
YES! He does know his stuff!
He said he wanted to make sure there was a proper place to drive it to ensure the calibration was ok.
He also knows - all you need is a computer to put the Jeep into calibration mode, drive it how and where it tells you to, and 5 minutes later, you are done. That's it. No fancy equipment, no needing a perfectly level spot, and so on.
He asked about my tires and lift or no lift because if the height from the ground to the rear of the front lower control arm is over a certain number, it would likely require calibration and you have to enter a number associated with that dimension when putting it into self-calibration mode.

Finally a glass guy who knows his stuff.

I replaced my first windshield 2 weeks after picking up the Jeep. I had stone chip that spread quickly to the edge.

Now I have a stone chip that I filled with epoxy and was curious to see if last through winter or not.
I am not going to see that because I have another long crack in the lower middle running from the edge vertically for a few inches. Time to replace the second windshield.

How big is the crack? I returned my lease with a 7" crack in the passenger corner of the windshield and they didn't ding me for it. Mine was an LE with all the fancy stuff in the windshield and it was going to cost like $2k to fix so I was super relieved.

I negotiated a trade-in on a new 2022 back at the first of May. Everything was perfect at that time. We agreed on numbers (which no other dealer was willing to do because of the current markets) and he said as long as I keep the miles under 29,000 (or a max of 1,000/month from that time) and it comes back in the same condition they saw it in, they'd honor the trade price no matter how long it took to get a new one.
That means - I have to get the windshield fixed.
It's way larger than what a dollar bill would cover, and worse, goes clear to the top edge. it's right in the area of the ACC/FCW camera and radar unit. Luckily all of that stuff works perfectly, no issues with those at all.
But it wasn't cracked when we agreed, so I have to have it fixed.
I do have a high deductible - $500, but that's the risk I took while continuing to drive it until the other arrives. It's more or less our main vehicle most of the time.

Waiting for ours to crack. It has tiny little but long scratches. No clue from what. Heck we might have bought it like that, it was dark and wintery when we got it and then had no real time.
Has not been mechanically washed, just pressure hosed down. They are not from the wipers. If you drive into the sun, it looks like spiderwebs on the glass. Mostly horizontal lines, a few that go down and a few that are swervy.

Have not had a vehicle with such sensitive glass.

Unfortunately joined the club this weekend very thankful I live in a state where there’s no deductible for windshield replacement. Had it one month today but bought it used 24,600 miles as of now.

Unfortunately, in Iowa, the deductible is whatever the insurance company wants it to be based on the price you pay for the policy. There may be a max (sort of silly to have a 1500 deductible, eh?) but it's half the cost of the windshield and install in my case. I'm going to have a talk with my agent as it's crazy to pay $500 bucks every couple of years for new glass. Even a modest increase in the cost of my policy would be worth it.
Had #2 windshield put in last friday, haven't hit 27,000 miles yet.

Where you near Pinedale Shopping Mall?

ā€œAs God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.ā€ The utterance from Gordon Jump’s station manager Arthur (Big Guy) Carlson concerned an ill-fated Thanksgiving promotion in which 20 gobblers were dropped to their deaths from a helicopter, ā€œhitting the ground like sacks of wet cement.ā€ The station’s oddball newsman Les Nessman reported live on air as he witnessed the turkey-bombing outside Pinedale Shopping Mall.

I remember that one. It was so funny - but also thought - oh, man, in reality they'd be in SO MUCH trouble!

6000 miles. Small rock or something small I did not see hit the windshield (I guess) on the driver’s side. Did not see anything while driving. Next morning there is a crack across the drivers side originating from the lower left corner. :(
Warranty says it’s covered once in 24 months, but heck I can’t get the dealer’s warranty guy to talk to me. I may have to talk to another dealer? How do you get that taken care of under warranty?
