Does anyone know how the assembly process for custom orders works? Hopefully my questions below will help you understand what I am asking.

Do they program the assembly of each custom order separately?

Do they wait for a Jeep to be sequenced that matches a custom order?

Or do they add additional options after the jeep is built?

This could help us understand why some JTs are taking longer for no apparent reason.

With so much being driven by supply chain logistics and dependencies on suppliers, I think the process understanding would be useful but ultimately unable to explain why any particular truck is delayed.

Like what Megamucho said. There is much to be determined by supply/inventory of parts requested, for example if you ordered a Jeep with a hard top, they have to have the part on hand or wait till it to arrive before the build can begin.

They install the parts as it goes down the line with the exception of things such as Spray in Bedliner which they ship the vehicle to another facility to have that added on. Which can be a delay in the order process.

I understand that part, but what If say 1 truck has an anti-spin rear diff and 7 inch screen, and another has standard rear diff and 8 inch screen. Or any other combinations of trims, additional options, groups, etc.. All parts are in stock. Could they build these trucks back to back? Or would they do batches of the exact same truck, and fill orders that match. Then do another batch with a different set of options.

Does that make sense?

My understanding is that each truck can be different, they source all parts (D status) and once they are in order they put the thing down the line. If they can't source the parts (e.g. bumper) you get stuck in D1 limbo.

Yes it does, they can build a 4door JLUR and a 2dr JLS back to back, one can have standard everything and the Rubicon can be fully loaded. There is a video on building jeeps...
