I'm curious what pump you have. I'm now running the specific Midnight Forest pump which to me is overpriced also. It works specifically with the system due to the hose attachments for the midnight forest containers but my only concern is the longevity of the pump as the components are cheaply Chinese made. For now though it works for my needs.
I've seen those other drop in systems like you other guys have mentioned though and you are right, the prices have definitely come down on those.
Lone rock concepts, its just a tap style pump though that just replaces the plastic spicket that comes on most reliance jugs. Although I paid like $45 at the time for its adapter kit. With the kit it's normally quite expensive. Light weight, life warranty and they advertise 30 days/30 gallons. I use a seperate pump, something similar to the midnight forest sprayer, for pressured water/shower. That one is just cheap existing amz one though.

@Zachanadandy How does it tow with a full 500gal?
Not badat all. Approximately 6800lbs. The trip from CA to AZ with our entire cabin in the trailer and bed wasn't all that bad and that was 8240lbs in the trailer. The cooling system would be my biggest concern which is why I try to do any heavy towing in the winter. Even with the over weight trailer it had no problems maintaining 65-70mph even up the one pass that gains 4k feet of elevation in 20 miles.

We have three of those exact cans. We keep them filled with water in case an issue arises with our water well, we have a little to flush toilets or whatever while arranging repair. I also bring one of them camping for hand washing and such.
I have 10 of those cans. Have them for "just in case". Had to use them once because of water main break, boil water advisory.
