Off on a tangent here, I do appreciate that my Jeep has a mechanical brake lever. Every car manufacturer has opted for some sort of electronic switch to engage and disengage the parking brake.
100%. Electric parking brakes help nothing. They solve a non existent problem.

The one problem they do help with is people that drive away with manual parking brakes engaged. They ruin parking brakes after that happens a few times. Many electric ones auto disengage when putting the car in gear and driving away. Not a problem all of us have, but they are better for that.

The jeep beeps at you if you try that, even with the mechanical brake. Ask me how I know haha.

I know, ask me how I do as well. :) our Cherokee didn’t do that well with the electric parking brake. Probably an early version in 2014. Our current other non Jeep suv has one and it auto disengages very smoothly. It’s not a trail rig, so is well suited to the electric option. I just hated it in a trail vehicle.

It sucked in our compass. it never auto disengaged, and sometimes it wouldn't even disengage when you pushed the button.

Yeah. It’s fantastic in our Volvo. I’m guessing your compass was the same setup as our Cherokee. Fine, but also terrible. :) but I want mechanical clicks when I’m on an incline and need to get out the check something on a trail. I of course only do that if someone else can’t get out for me. I don’t trust parking brakes on inclines if I don’t need to. I like my foot on the floor.

Too many videos of Jeeps rolling back on trails after failed parking brakes. :) if im to be a statistic, it won’t be that one.

They didn't used to............ aks me how I know LOL (2004 WJ)

It wasn't that long ago Jeep fixed that as I can recall my wife driving her Grand Cherokee asking why it was taking so much to get going.

This might be just a getting used to it thing. First, you'll stall a whole lot less when you drive it more, to the point where it's an extremely rare occurrence. Second, the push button restarts faster than turning a key or pseudo-key ever would. I love my MT, but keyed ignitions aren't coming back. After 10 years of driving push button start vehicles, it's so annoying to use a real key in my wife's JKU. And then to have to find that real key in your pocket, or for my wife, in her purse. Proximity + push button is awesome.
Yep, pulling a key out of your pocket is definitely tedious.
But, a rotary switch does not have to have a real key that comes out it just requires the fob like the button does.

Ive stalled the MT at a light a several times in the last 22k miles and the button's short comings became apparent. In one case I had to cycle it repeatedly before run would crank the thing. Even shifted to neutral with clutch in and it still would not crank. On the third cycle from off to run it cranked. Meanwhile I'm sitting there blocking the intersection. That experience soured me on the button.

Restarting can be a critical function and delegating that to some firmware doofus who probably cannot even drive just seems like a poor choice. But hey, soon we wont even have a steering wheel!

not adding to the issue, but Lexus does Credit Card keys for special edition cars and the LX, LC, and LS respectfully.

Im hoping this technology comes to every manufacturer. I like push button start, hate key fobs. Its almost as thin as a credit card.

I carry enough crap without a credit card sizes anything. I don't want more of anything in my pockets and have actually thinned down a whole heck of a lot in the last year or so. Even if they offered a credit card sized something, it's the dimensions on two directions that will be a pain. I won't even carry another credit card - won't do it. So it would likely hang off a belt like this one does and then sit on a hook somewhere when not in use.
I don't ever have this in my pocket and my wife has even added a clip to her much smaller Grand Cherokee fob - which I won't put in a pocket.

"keys" can go away totally, IMO.

I recently had to spend a couple weeks driving a couple of regular cars after almost a year of Tesla ownership. It's simply annoying. You never realize how many dozens of friction points cars cause simply because they are outdated, old-think, and holding onto ancient skeuomorphs just because people are lazy and fearful. But then you drive something that eliminates that garbage and realize how cars SHOULD be in 2022. Keys are stupid.

There is one huge advantage to keys - you do get to have a really cool key ring!
