Delete push button start, go back to keyed ignition? The rfid brick has to go...

Have you seen it? I saw an early video of it and it required that you manipulate/unlock the phone. Maybe they dropped that? You also have no ability to "remote start" the vehicle, unless the vehicle maker adds that on their own in their own app.

There's a reason some things have to make you unlock the phone - imagine you losing the phone or sitting it down somewhere............ Google's pay app on the phone requires that the phone be unlocked and it requires specific security on the phone. I have mine setup for fingerprint but the bad thing about that is it's specific to the finger - at least my fingers, due to damage over the years. So when I smashed my finger with a hammer a couple of weeks ago I had a heck of a time getting my phone unlocked.
Phones can get lost, stolen, left on a table, left in a vehicle, fall off or out as you get into or out of a vehicle, so to me - I don't want anything to work if that phone is locked. It IS a key.

I didn't either, but I can tell you there's no good answer to be found here. It's just the way things are now.

My '22 has an option where it will honk/chirp 3 times if it is on and it detects the key leave the vehicle. Super useful and I wonder if it isn't something you can enable on yours.

I'm placing my order next month for a 22 gladiator and my parents have the 20 gladiator if the new ones do the chirp to alarm you of the keyfob missing than that might fix the issue i have. I just really don't like everything relying on electricity. I tried to give my brothers vehicle a jump start last night and we needed to put his Toyota in neutral to push it to get it in a better position for the batteries being closer and you cant even put his car in neutral without a charged battery so he was screwed we couldn't jump start it.

I'd bet there's a manual release. I'd be shocked if there wasn't a way to put it in neutral to load onto a tilt-bed truck or otherwise transport it. Look in the book for a manual release. A lot of people don't realize there's such a thing on these Gladiators, too.....

Yeah I see you've got a 96 Silverado - the JT has surely been a leap ahead in complexity for me from my 00 Ram. I put the Ram in storage for the winter a few months ago and have every expectation it will crank on the first try when this place thaws out in another month or two. I don't think the JT or any other modern car could do the same under the same circumstances.

yep i have the 96 Chevy pickup and that's what the gladiator is replacing. i need something newer that has even better fuel economy and towing capacity for hauling the camper. i am either going to sell it once i have the gladiator or i am going to go all in and turn it into a solid front axle mad max rock crawler i have no idea yet.

There are really good deals on project CJ7’s with 4 speed manuals and keyed ignitions. Clutch travel as long as your leg.

I just started thinking about when I had four of my Jeeps on the road as D.D use.... holy hell that would suck having four of the bricks in my pocket... ? one key ring 6 keys simple. 05 LJ, 91XJ, 91MJ, 90XJ, house key.
The "old timer" in me don't trust non mechanical connections to brakes, gas, ECT, ECT. Probably due to seeing S### fail. My question to all the fans of push button start / stop what are you going to do with a run away engine stuck at wide open throttle? Throw it in neutral and blow the engine?
Or after a T. Storm and nothing will start, I got to watch 3 towing company's spend hours towing almost every vehicle in parking lot to dealership's to replace / repair all the new vehicle's that had keyless systems.

Yes. If my truck ever did that, you bet I would if other efforts failed.

Have you never seen a key start engine not shut off with the key? I have.
The odds of stuck at WOT AND unable to kill the engine are pretty out there. I think I'll buy a lottery ticket, I'll have better odds.

Neutral, then pull negative battery cable. But I agree. The chances are super slim. Or for some levity, the old banana in the tailpipe. That should date the old ones of us.

I don't think this is any more likely to happen with keyless than with keyed. I can't see why it would be. Both extremely unlikely. What's more likely to happen with keyed ignitions is someone's knee or heavy keys shutting the car off while it's driving, like on the old cobalts. I think that was the catalyst the pushed manufacturers toward keyless ignition, even on base models.
