Did you buy a new Gladiator and it makes "pew pew pew" noises at startup and other random times?

Still can't figure out why any such device would be other than totally quiet. What's the noise for? Is it also a flame thrower? Maybe there's a small bug stuck in it trying to get out and gets shocked when you start the truck?

All these do is - if you have seat belts fastened when you start it, you'll hear a single "ding" and if you don't have seat belts buckled and start it, you get 3 dings.
That's all mine has ever done - even with that Martian transporter device tucked up under the device.
I thought maybe it was some modern force field generator - and found a SIM card in it and realized, no, it's human-made.
I hit some kind of record today. 12. Kids counted. We had made it kind of a joke how random it was so when it happens everyone starts counting.

I rented a Wrangler Rubicon in Sedona via Turo and strongly suspected it was going to have a tracker in it. Found it quickly but left it alone because offroading wasn't against the rental agreement and didn't want to mess with their device. /csb

Yep, I had one (silent one) in the JT despite declining the tracking service from dealer. Only reason I found it, was the knee panel was loose, and I saw the device when I popped it off to re-align and install the panel.

Funny thing, is out 2005 TJ had a lo-jack in it too, found it very well hidden behind the glove compartment when I removed the dash to replace the heater core. We have had that Jeep since new from the dealer.

Obviously some dealers install GPS devices on all vehicles that come off the transport to their location.
Mine was ordered by me, prepped for me, never sitting on their lot and the papers were all already signed. All I had to do was go in and give them the money and perhaps sign a final paper or two accepting the vehicle. And yet there it was - up under the dash, strapped to the large wire bundle on the far left side.
It was connected only to power and ground of the OBD harness via a piggy-back. No splicing. They pulled the OBD connector out of the bracket, plugged this device into that OBD connector, then the device connector was plugged back into the bracket. Took seconds to take it out and thankfully no wires tapped or poked. I'd have been really unhappy if they had poked any wire. I am a strong believer in wire integrity and get PO'd when someone uses a "tap" and punctures insulation in any way.
Mine was simple GPS and had a SIM card in it.

You might be able to use that SIM in a burner phone, lol...
Funny you mention that - it didn't fit my tablet. Was going to check to see if I have any other devices it might work in......... I've got a stack of old cell phones sitting by my desk.

Lmao no I didn't.
If you posted It to start with, I missed it entirely. I’ll go throw myself off the nearest tower. Would that be a satisfactory solution?

I'd prefer you throw the installers who put these SWAT things on cars off the tower.....

Im sure you would, lucky for me I don’t have that issue. I’m actually pretty happy with the chiming I hear from this truck. Compared to Toyotas, it’s downright pleasant.

I FINALLY, after hours, figured out why your "pew pew pew" made me chuckle. It wasn't laughing at you or your post per se - but something about that triggered me to want to laugh. I now know why -
Thing of my father years ago when my younger brothers would run around in the house or the yard with their toy guns, pretending to shoot and saying "pew pew pew" and Dad would ask - is someone farting? And my brothers would laugh thinking that was cool - an older person saying "fart" in those days.
You brought back some memories that made me laugh -but it took hours to figure out where and what was doing it.
Dad was sort of goofy that way, telling fart jokes, telling how he and is friends tried to light each others farts.........and Mom sitting there totally embarrassed wishing he'd stop that.

Some years ago Dad accompanied a prospective buyer on a test drive. The "tester" drove onto the highway. After a mile he pulled over, pulled out a gun, orderred Pops out and drove off. It was only after Dad passed that we learned of the incident from a church buddy. He did not want Mom to know as he was retired and making WAM. This was before trackers. Then, all most dealers did was photo copy the license, hoping it was legit. Sucks though having the dealership ignore the customer directions.

Is the OBDII harness just a pigtail I can disconnect further up? Not sure what I can do about the vampire tap. Maybe build a "dummy" spade connector and just insulate the tab on the tap.

OH - the "This Side Skyward" was oriented towards the passenger side. Dealers charge $1,000 for this crap if you "Accept" it. Feel bad for people.
