Anybody notice while going slow up a hill in manual mode 1st gear the transmission seems like it downshifts? I was going slow as the hill was rutted around 5mph as power started dying off I pushed accelerator and it felt as if it downshifted. I’m currently on 37s but it also did it stock. Don’t think anything is wrong but it is annoying if trying to go slow.

Are you saying that when you have it manually in 1st gear (with an AT) and go up a hill, it seems like it drops down ANOTHER gear??

If that's what you are saying, its most likely the torque converter letting the motor spin up a few RPM

Yep exactly what I’m saying. I’ve never noticed it in my many rams with same tranny. I didn’t think the trans locked the converter til 3rd so I didn’t realize it could be the converter?

I'm just speculating. But if its in first, its in first. I'm guessing the RPM comes up when you stand on the gas, then settles back down when you ease off.

It’s weird definitely in first manual. It feels hard and firm like a downshift. Can replicate as needed and it’s not slipping

Turbo lag. The turbo is spinning up to make boost. Make boost, make power.

Converter lockup is different in manual mode if I recall correctly I believe you can get full lock in any gear with the right circumstances. IE x rpm with y throttle request at a given speed.

That makes the most sense for what it is doing but I was told it wouldn’t lock in lower gears. I’ll have to try it in regular drive next time to see if there is a difference

just to be sure, your rear tires aren't spinning or traction control isn't kicking in? Those things can make forward drive seem odd at times. Like you stab the gas but nothing happens. 1st is so low on these EcoD's that if you stab the gas the rear should break loose very easy but it it rarely does with all the nanny crap.

Good point but I forgot to mention happened in both 2nd and 4hi. Traction control does suck on these though

you may want to ask the dealer to check the fluid level, if it's low it may cause odd running issues.

Yes makes it hard to keep it smooth. Have you noticed it behaving any different while it is in auto mode

I think it's smoother in auto mode if memory serves. I know I HATE the off road + mode in low range because of the shifting.....Way late and holds too long to a stall!

I just have a Willys so no off-road plus for me but I’ve wondered if it would help…guess I have my answer. Guess I’ll just hit the hills a little harder.
