Recently traded my 2020 rubicon 6MT with about 30000kms on it for a nearly identical 2021 diesel.
My first impressions of the 3.6L were that it was pretty fun to drive but was a little twitchy at times with the manual transmission. A field mouse LOVED the battery box last winter…He was evicted after 2 days.
Had to replace the hood insulator and the battery cover, must have been tasty?
The only difference between the 2 is that the diesel does not have the forward trailcam, no park sense, no spray in bed liner, and no cargo management option. The diesel came with the black alum wheels vs the grey ones and both the hard top and the soft top as well as a tonneau cover. No hard top carry bag though. There is no love lost on the park sense and trailcam. The bed liner however is needed and will be adding a LineX colour matched bed liner.
My only real disappointment with the 6MT was the gearing. I drive mostly highway, about 260km round trip to work with a lot of hills. I could rarely get it out of 4th gear. I would average about 11-12L/100km.
After about 2000kms on the diesel I am averaging about 7.7L and the torque reminds me a lot of my thirdgen firebird. It has a lot more pickup and the auto shifts smoothly. So far my only issue with the diesel is finding out the oil capacity is almost double so will need a bigger oil drain pan, the filters are a lot more expensive and I keep trying to find the clutch to start or forgetting to put the car in park after putting the parking brake on and turning the engine off. I figure those are all OK problems to have considering the diesel is getting into the fuel economy of a 4cyl manual all while still being able to push an aerodynamic brick along.
