To date I have not seen a comparison on the differences between the Sport, Sport S, Overland and Rubicon. Can anyone direct me to where this is made clear? I need to make sure I’m dreaming about and saving for the right model

Go to Jeep website and build each one out the way you want. Rubicon is top of the line with rock crawling goodies bigger tires all the bells and whistles ect. Max tow 7k Overland is the luxury model with all the bells and whistles but lacks the rock crawling goodies and does not come with Dana 44 axles max tow 6k. Sport s has the 4wheel drive as in every other model but lacks all the goodies and options are slim to none but has max tow at 7650. And last but not least is sport with Manuel windows little to no options but still 4 wheel drive and max tow I believe. Just research each model on build and go through these forums. Good luck

Someone's (one of the media outlets) got a good review video that goes through all of them.... I'll search and post back when I find it.

Most people throw the Sport out immediately because of its lack of standard air conditioning, power windows, and power door locks.

So that leaves you with Sport S, Overland, Rubicon.

Sport S has the lowest cost and the ability to get more payload and towing. It's the volume seller in the lineup that most people will choose.

Overland takes away the big payload and towing ability, but adds the ability to get leather, 8.4" infotainment, body color fenders and top, etc. Just a more dressed up model rather than a hard working model.

Rubicon can have all the stuff Overland has, and adds locking diffs, electronic sway bar, and barely larger tires for heavy offroad use. Still doesn't have a large payload capacity but towing figures are respectable. Pricing is off the charts and exceeds most nicely equipped full size gas or diesel trucks.

That's it in a nutshell.

The nutshell is oversimplified. The Sport DOES have AC, only the 2 door Wrangler doesn’t have it standard. The Rubicon tires are 33”...largest ever offered on a Jeep, and the high clearance flares allow 35’s without a lift. It CAN be super expensive, but is only about $3500 more than an equally equipped Sport S...but comes with a lot of upgrades that a Sport S requires the Max tow package to include (which requires an automatic)

Rubicon gets heavy duty, wider axles with bigger brakes, factory lockers, and an upgraded suspension. It gets the best cloth interior. Rubi gets the best crawl ratio in 4lo. The Overland and Rubi come standard with the upgraded climate controls, and are the only models that can get proximity entry (which you can’t add aftermarket) and the only models you can order factory LED lighting. Plus they both get upgraded wheels/tires. Can’t get the steel winch ready bumper in Sport or Soort S either.

It’s worthwhile to note that many packages have hidden features, like an acoustic windshield and active noise cancelling only with the top level Nav/audio upgrade. Also the towing package gets a better alternator and better radiator. Cargo management gets the rails, plus a 110 outlet and the rifle case under the rear seats. There’s more but I can’t recall right now.

Oh, so they added A/C and increased the cost. Nice. Power windows and locks still aren't there, which is a PITA on a 4-door vehicle.

The tires, measured with a level and tape measure, are only 0.25" taller, which is only 0.125" more ground clearance, hence the reason I said "barely" larger...because they're barely larger.

Guys put 35s on Sports all the time.

It's more like $7,000 more than a Sport S.

According to Jeep.com, “Speed Control” is listed under standard features on a Sport.

AC has been standard on the 4 door since 2011, at least, maybe going back to 2007. Adding features and increasing the cost isn’t exactly a method ripping anyone off...your get what you pay for. I’ve been living without power windows and locks on a JKU for the past 6 years. In fact, my windows are ZIPPERED. Pita? Meh...takes me about 10 seconds longer to physically remove the top half of all 4 doors than it will for you to “roll” your windows down with 4 buttons. And yeah, I’m running 35’s on my unlifted Sport...I can tell you definitively that it can’t be done without other mods. Different fender flares and different wheels or spacers are absolutely required. The wide axles and high clearance flares of a Rubicon on the JL/JT make it possible WITHOUT mods. You can get the wide axles on a Sport S with the max tow package...but EQUALLY EQUIPPED, or as close to equal as you can get, and the Sport S is $44,115, while a Rubi comes in at $47,290. The Rubi still includes lockers, disconnects, better shocks, and tires that may not be a lot taller, but are also 40mm wider. The TC is a wash, depending on use.
