Was curious everyones thoughts are and what will your plan be. The manual says for m220 (rubicon) 75w85 but always have used 75w140 in the rear as i tow semi often.is the 75w85 jeeps attempt at better gas mileage with no concern to making the dif last? Are others following manual? Interested in others thoughts.

I replaced the OEM fill a short time back with synthetic 75W-140 Valvoline.
One reason the bag of gear oil is easier to use. But I do normally use synthetic oils is it better, I don't know. I've not seen any problems with regular or synthetic in axles. Next change might be factory recommend wt. if I can get it in a gallon jug. I used not quite 3 qt bags.

I also run 75w140 in the rear. And 75w90 in the front, both full syn. I've run everything from Mobil 1 to Valvoline to Supertech, all with good results. But like @Blade1668 I like the Valvoline bags the best.

I keep the bags when empty so I can use up my stash of Supertech full syn. I just pour the bottles into the bag and squirt it in the diffs.

I think realistically most people to include myself are running any GL-5 75W-90 grade gear oil with no issue. That grade is just so much easier to find and at better pricing than the OM spec'd 75W-85 grade.

That being said, DANA recommends either during a rebuild and also the aftermarket DANA 44 ADVANTEK axles they sell direct to consumer come with 75W-140 grade.

Also, the Chrysler Tech Authority differs from the OM and will spec 75W-140 for those with the tow package.

In my opinion, there is no engineering determent to running any of the grades mention so far.
