Discount tire requires valid vehicle for 35" tire order

I cannot order tires by size like I used to. I cleared browser cache and attempted to order just wheels by size, but the website will not let me checkout without entering a vehicle. What vehicle has 35"x12.5"x17" tires from the factor lol

I assume this is impacting sales from enthusiasts across the board. Its strange as it was enthusiasts that first propped up the stores...

Weird.

I went to Discount Tire Direct, clicked on 'shop by size', picked a random set of 35s, added it to the cart, and went all the way to the page where you enter your payment info and press 'place order' without any issues.

Now, if i enter a vehicle and then click shop by vehicle and say 'Nah I don't want factory sizes' and then go click on 'shop by size', it won't let me look for 35s at all. But then I just go back to home page, delete that vehicle, and go back to searching for whatever I want.

My guess is they get a LOT of people misordering sizes and it's a huge headache all around.

Have you tried just calling the shop and doing it with them?

Yeah that enter valid vehicle thing is what's stopping me.

I ended up just entering a 2022 wrangler rubicon 392 and opting for oversized tires, which gets you to a 35"x12.5"x17" tire option. I put in the appointment notes not to get excited its just a gladiator lol.

I can't swap that tires myself because I'd like to get the tpms swap from discount tire, especially since thats tagged onto the price no matter what.

Like I said - weird that yall are running into that issue. I tried with replacement certificates, and without, and at no point am I ever prompted to tell them what's its going on, even at the very final screen where I entered BS payment info and the 'Place Order Now' button illuminated for me to click.

Curious to see why it's doing that.

Are you buying them to have them done / sent to a local Discount Tire place? I filled it out as if shipping to my house (there isn't a Discount Tire close enough to me to worry with). Maybe that's the difference.

Edit: After playing around more rather than working - I see what causes it now.

Discount Tire, and buying them to be done at their location, appears to cause an issue. I'd bet in real life they don't care that it doesn't match up - but the computer system selling the tires does.

Discount Tire DIRECT, their arm for just shipping to the customer, doesn't care what they go on because they aren't mounting it.

And probably a lot to do with liability. For example, Wal Mart will not mount any tire to a vehicle unless their book or computer says it will fit. Doesn't matter how slight the difference.

See my edited post. It appears its the difference between using their Store service/website, or the 'Direct' website and whether or not they are doing the work.

Install option hang up makes sense. I know the local DT store will not mind.

You can put a gladiator and they have options for a lift kit or stock height. Select rubicon trim level and 5ā€ lift, that’s what I did. If that doesn’t work change the model year. Their system isn’t perfect. If you want to skip all that then just do it old school and pick up your phone and dial their number, there’s an app called phone that can take care of that for you.
