I have never gotten a smell from an additive and I use Hot Shots at every fill up. But I have noticed a strong diesel fuel smell as well and I too just had my fuel pump replaced. I don't see anything dripping on the ground but I think it's safe to say the fuel pump is leaking.

After I had the HPFP replaced I started using Hotshots additive. At roughly the same time I had my oil changed at the dealer and the knucklehead mechanic spilled oil all over the driver side engine compartment (That’s another frustrating story).

Initially there was a distinct synthetic burning smell that I thought was coming from the oil burning off the exhaust and other hot parts. The smell started to go away but I also started using the Hotshots off and on, less and less.

Fast forward to Friday, I decided to use the additive before a desert trip towing my camper. There is no doubt that the smell is coming from the Hotshots.

Has anyone else experience this?
I had my whole fuel system replaced because my fuel pump failed. When they installed the new fuel injectors the seals leaked and exhaust was escaping into the engine compartment. When at idle the cabin air would pick up the exhaust fumes. I returned to the dealer to have new injector seals put in.

Yeah, I do believe there is an issue. I haven’t used any additives and haven’t smelled a thing. Another member here DM’d me with the same issue. Luckily the recall on my truck is still open. On the list waiting for parts apparently.

It’s been over a year. I stopped using fuel additive and haven’t smelled any weird fuel scents. Just recently and for about a month now I’m noticing this again. Still no additives. There are no check engine lights on. Fuel economy still good at 23MPg. I’m afraid to take it to the dealership for them to say nothints wrong here’s your $350 bill.

i have a 100k mile warranty. Any advice or suggestions?

I had the additive smell, but it turned out to be a leaky bottle of Hotshot - no matter how much I checked and tightened that SOB, it just leaked - threw it away and put another bottle behind the seat - after a few weeks the odor went away. I know this sounds simplistic, but sometimes ...
