I recently purchased a 2020 Gladiator Overland. The factory sticker that came with the car says:

8.4 Inch Radio and Premium Audio Group
Uconnect 4C NAV with 8.4 In Display
Alpine Premium Audio System
Rear View Dimming Mirror
Emergency Call
HD Radio
Sirius XM "stuff"

I assumed this Gladiator would come with Apple Carplay. But, when I hook up my phone, I can see it automatically detects it the screen by showing the 3 usb ports. The charging indicator comes up on any of the 3 ports, so they all seem to be working. However, no Apple Carplay icon comes up. I've tried this when the start button is just in run, and I've tried it when the car is started. I use my iphone in my wife's car, a Kia Telluride, so I know the phone works with Carplay. Any idea on how to test if Apple Carplay comes with this Gladiator or what I might be doing incorrectly to get it to connect?

Thanks, Tom

Yes it should. Since you state you can see the usb ports connected I am guessing you are looking at the “Media” tab/app.

There is another app, “phone “, that will be the actual car play. If it’s not along the bottom options it will be buried under the “Apps” tab. You can drag/drop it to the bottom to make it more useable.

I could be wrong, But No. You can connect your phone to the Jeep so you can make phone calls, play your music, and perhaps a few other features via the media features. But I think Carplay came with the '21 model year. You should be able to connect your iPhone via Bluetooth.

FWIW: I felt sure '21 model years would allow connecting Carplay via BlurTooth, but NO... One has to use the cable or a Bluetooth to USB dongle.. I tried one but that proved more aggravating than it was worth, so I'm back to a cable. I think the main issue was the USB port always has power, which confuses things.

It has CarPlay. I have a 2020 Overland and it works fine. If you connect your phone through Bluetooth it won’t load CarPlay even when it’s plugged in.

I did have my bluetooth set to on, so that the phone will automatically connect when I get in the car. I turned off the bluetooth. when I plug in my iphone and click on the phone icon, I get the message No Phone Conneced. Do you want to pair a phone? But still, the carplay icon does not come on. Yet, my phone is connected to usb1 and my phone shows it's being charged, so there is a connection.

I have a 2020 with same audio system. Yes, it has Car Play. It is not wireless Car Play. You need to plug in like you are doing. Typically, as soon as you plus in, one of the buttons along the bottom changes to show a Car Play icon automatically (think it is the phone one). If it does not Car Play does not automatically open on the main part of the screen, you touch that icon to start it.

Mine initially worked fine, but when I switched to iPhone 15 pro, it was weird for a while and had to unplug and replug to get it to connect. I think there was an issue on Apple's end, that eventually was fixed, because mine has been working fine since.

I do not have my phone bluetooth connected to the car. I found things worked more smoothly without.

You might try a different usb cable. When I was having issues and did research, it seemed that corrected the problem for some people. I always use Apple cables, and not aftermarket. So that was not the source of my issue.

Good luck!

It should work. Look through the settings. Screen mirroring for the phone has to be enabled.
Never heard of this, but all things are possible. CarPlay is not screen mirroring.

Use an APPLE USB in the “C” port. Don’t ask why but I had the same problem when I got my 22 and it was solved with the use of an Apple USB C plug. Others were hit or miss. May also need a software update as mine has gotten far more reliable. Also recommend a wireless dongle for the USB C.
