My only worry with the hinge pins is the bearing surface. Before (TJ, I assume JK), the pin was full bore diameter all the way through, this one (JL, TJ) has a sex bolt (Chicago screws?) and the bearing surface is only half of the length of the bushing....
Probably not a big deal, I run mine with no bolts or pin guides year round, but its worth observing.
I'll ask. What is a sex bolt?

It's fun to show up at the boat ramp with the doors off and watch people react. It's a Jeep thing.
Why would it matter to anyone that you tow with the doors off?

These might be the best yet, but like you said, pricey. I assume the mirror and stem comes off quickly and easily leaving only the base on the A-Pillar grab handle.
Correct, there is the knurled nut you unscrew (tool less) and the whole mirror comes out leaving just the bracket.

The CMM ones are pricey, but according to all accounts, they don't vibrate at all. They are also tool less, although the mount itself stays installed.

I've got a couple of their other ball mounts and they are very well made.

I'm probably going to order one soon..

+1 for CMM. Very high build quality, super easy to install and remove (one thumb screw to install or remove) and very stable. No vibrations or anything, even up to the JT's max speed of 98mph (so I have heard ).They are pricy compared to some other options, but well worth the extra cost.

Dang, thought I spelled it out well enough.

Double take adventure motorcycle mirror
https://www.doubletakemirror.com/build/components

with a RAM Tough-claw, small size w/1" ball
https://www.rammount.com/part/RAP-B-400U

and a 3" long RAM arm 1" ball size.
https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-201U
So I was running through how to get this setup for less money by either using used stuff off ebay or knock off Ram stuff from Amazon.

Then I scrolled down on the DoubleTake mirror website and found this.

Jeep Gladiator Doors off for the first time yesterday. Some questions. 1653584508421

Rather than clamping to the grab handle on the A pillar, this mounts a ball at the base of the windshield. I called DoubleTake and asked if this ball could be left on all the time and he said "absolutely". That is how its meant to be used.

I think I will be going this route. $120 gets me a nice setup that checks all the boxes except for low cost. I could get by legally with just drivers side, but the only actual use I have a side mirror is my passenger side mirror for backing into the Garage. So I might as well as well get it.

If, in theory of course, someone would actually dare to get to 98mph, does the dash display switch to gallons per mile?
?

That's how I began, figured using the ball on the side.

Did not care for it as you had to align the mirror each and every time you put it on/off.
Every time you loosen the ram arm enough to get it on/off the ball, the mirror moves.

I cant reach the mirror in that location either, so those adjustments are kind of a PITA.
Back and forth out of the seat, or have someone adjust it for you.

I remove mine every time I go into a store or something as I dont want someone stealing it.
Thats the down side of tool-less.

Thanks for the extra info. I dont' live in an area where people will steal it. So that's not an issue.

I took the front doors off for the first time an evening last week, it was super fun! I definitely want to ride that way more often, but with Central Florida rain I’m trying to find the best solution for emergency cover up.

I have looked at Bestop soft doors that I could throw in the bed when I have the hard doors off but $800 for two doors that are only for emergency use seems steep. Just curious is this group has a more cost effective creative ideas.

Thanks!

Embarrassing Question on Door Pins Guides:

I just got a set of those “door pin guides” from Amazon, the rounded caps that screw onto the door pins by hand. Am I supposed to leave them on permanently and knock the bushings out of the hinge tubes so they fit? Or is their only purpose to allow hand removal instead of a using the wrench?

I have left mine on since I installed them. They should fit inside the bushing. Don't remove them. They are made to make removing and reinstalling the doors more simple giving you an aid to lining up the pins to the hinges.

It's actually easiest if you just put the tops on.

That way the pins are of different lengths, so you don't need to line them both up at the same time. Put the tops in, just a bit, then line up the bottoms and lower the door the rest of the way.
