I know 15 hour days aren't for everyone, but 7 hour days? What do people do for the other 17 hours? If there are sites you want to check out or your wheeling along the way sure, but there's no way I want to spend 17 hours in restaurants and or hotel rooms every day. Not judging, more of a legitimate question for those that travel at that pace.
The older I get, I can’t really go more than 9 or 10 hours. And that includes breaks every 2 hours. When I was younger, 18 hours no problem with less breaks!

Moab is 15 hours from home. If I do it in 1 shot each way that's 2 extra days wheeling. Even if I didn't have anywhere to be I have no desire to spend 12+ hours in a hotel.

I do 2 trips from south of Pittsburgh to Denver every year. About 1,500 miles and about 21 hours one way. I do that in 2 days. The wifey and the dog needs to stop about every 2 hours. Between fuel stops and pee stops. It takes us about 12 hours a day to do 750 miles. My self, I've done it in 21 hours with about 4 hours between each fuel stop.

940 miles / 15 hours =- 62.5 mph.

2150 miles (Atlanta) / 62.5 = 34.5 hours driving time

your pace = 3-day drive

Bump the average speed up a bit to 70 and it's 30 hours, or drive 17 hours per day, or drive 15 day 1 and 19 day 2 because again, I have no desire to spend a bunch of hours staring at a hotel room wall. We did 2300 in 2 days but that was a bit much even for me. Not to mention, the OP is starting ~300 miles closer to Georgia than where I am. Google maps say 32 hours from LA to Atlanta, which I usually beat by several hours in a roadtrip. But even at 32 hours, turning it into 4 days means 64 hours of down time.

I just did this trip from San Diego to Charleston, SC just before Christmas. It’s my third time doing this round trip.

I-8 > I-10 > I-20 and then whatever gets you to your destination.

My stops:
Day 1 - San Diego to Las Cruces, NM
Day 2 - Las Cruces to Terrell, TX (hotel next to Buc-ees! 🤣)
Day 3 - I felt good by the time I got to Atlanta so completed the run to Charleston. Another 3 hours.

Just get the hell out of the truck every couple hours for a bit. I hit the truck stop gas stations like Love’s, Pilot and Flying J to stretch, fill up and depending on time of day grab a bite. Don’t eat and drive, use it as a time to be out of the truck.

The trip from east Texas through the rest of the states is…boring! Just a canyon of pine trees with no views out to the sides unless you hit a river crossing. Lots of undulating interstate as well from that point on so the truck will be hunting gears on every short uphill. At least my gasser does on 37s and 4.10s.

No need to worry about fuel as there are plenty of truck stops along the way. DEF should be easily available as well, I have a gasser so have never looked for it but truck stops have DEF pumps. I recommend them over regular gas stations. They have more options, cleaner restrooms and if you’re like me in San Diego we don’t have them so they’re kinda fun to stop in!

Have a safe trip! It’s very cold right now here in the South and some spots may be getting snow. I wouldn’t recommend using a more northern route right now due to all the storms.

EDIT: I did this trip using the auto cruise control set to the speed limit. It’s such a stress reliever and lets you relax a bit more. Speed limits in Texas get up to 75 and this kills gas mileage and runs the gasser in lower gears from 5th on up depending on ascent and wind direction for my truck. I hate it and would rather run 65 the whole way but most autos and big rigs are running as fast as they can so I do my best to keep up.

It's possible to average 70mph (including stops), but it is impossible to do legally. Here is a GPS readout where the objective was to complete the course in 24 hours. Note the "Overall Average" and the top speed. FWIW, this was a ride in the state of Nevada. Obviously, the route was friendly to speed.

A few things about high-speed travel on public roads:

If you speed long enough, you are going to get caught.

Speed burns gas - lots of it.

Speed generates stress.

Who gives a fuck if he drives 17 hrs a day or 17 minutes? Let the guy do his thing
I don't care, like I said I legitimately wonder what people do when they only drive 8 hours a day on road trips. If he said hookers and blow in the hotel room then I can see killing 16 hours a day. Maybe you like sit down meals with 3 course lunches and 7 course dinners so killing 6 hours a day eating is possible? Again, no judgement just a question. Maybe you want to catch a film every evening, although I wouldn't want to spend my down time in a chair with limited leg room as I might as well still be driving at that point, you do you.

Well since you're "legitimately wondering" I'll tell you what I do:

On long road trips, if I'm driving, I like to keep my ass-in-seat time to about 9-10 hours max. And since I'm not a reclusive shut-in I look forward to finding something to do in a far away land that I've never been to or maybe will never visit again. So I get to a destination and maybe check a local museum or see a local band or eat at a local restaurant. For example, I have a rule that I don't eat anything that I can eat at home. I like to explore and embrace local fare. You know, normal people things. I look for weird and quirky things to do in small towns. Every small town has a house made of beer cans or the largest block of cheese or something silly like that. And it may seem weird, but the wife and I like cemeteries. Lots of small towns have cool old forgotten cemeteries to check out. And if we land in a big city for the night, well the possibilities are endless.

So there ya go. That's what I do when I don't feel like getting up at 3 am and driving 68 hours a day. Stop and smell the roses or cow shit or pollution or whatever.

I agree whole heartedly with the local fare, maybe a local brewery, etc when I'm done for the day. As far as the early start, we are morning people. I'm at the gym at 2:30am during the week (no crowds vs training after work). 8 hours in the hotel room, 1-2 hours for dinner/drinks, and 14-15 hours of getting where I'm going is about the average for us. Our property in Arizona is about 10 hours from home, so that part of any longer roadtrip there aren't any new sites I want to see. If we are on a trip somewhere new, just to be on a trip then we will head off and see new things. Most of those trips are wheeling/ overlanding so 12 hours per day in the Jeep is pretty normal though. Drive around checking out old mines or landmarks, but we still spend more time driving than hiking/exploring most days. Not saying my way is the only way or the right way, but it works for us.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but anti freeze washer fluid. You can’t get it in SoCal. Get a bottle of 90% isopropyl alcohol and add to the fluid. I made the trip years ago in a grand Cherokee San Diego to Oklahoma in the winter and washer fluid froze before flagstaff and stayed till back in ca a week later. I just in October road tripped in my gladiator straight through both ways 21 hours. Just enjoy the drive.
